The Green Energy Institute at Lewis & Clark Law School (GEI) is accepting applications for a staff attorney to join our team. The staff attorney will work on GEI's decarbonization and energy transition projects. This work includes extensive research, analysis, and writing; drafting petitions and other legal documents; participation in administrative and judicial proceedings, and creative problem-solving. The staff attorney will also supervise student externs and legal fellows.
DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
Work closely with GEI's staff attorney and director to research, analyze, and develop legal strategies to accelerate decarbonization.
Draft reports, white papers, and legal documents focused on decarbonization policy design and implementation.
Participate in administrative and judicial proceedings, including regulatory and adjudicatory proceedings before public utility commissions, environmental regulators, and other relevant agencies.
Conduct factual investigation, legal research and analysis, document drafting, and oral presentation and advocacy.
Interact with students, coalition partners, and experts.
Hire and supervise law students who work at GEI as interns or legal fellows.
Law school graduate who is admitted, or willing to apply for admission, to the Oregon state bar.
2-7 years of legal practice experience, ideally as a litigator, judicial clerk, or in another research- and writing-intensive position.
Excellent research, analytic, writing, and communication skills.
Strong work ethic and initiative, including the ability to work independently and in productive collaboration with others.
Commitment to serving the public interest and to rapid energy system decarbonization.
Understanding of, or ability to understand, the physical, economic, and legal dynamics that affect the energy system.
Strategic, deliberative, and creative legal thinker who is solution-oriented.
Demonstrated awareness of and sensitivity to the needs and concerns of individuals from diverse cultures, backgrounds, and orientations.
Contributor to the creation of a diverse, equitable, and inclusive work culture that encourages and celebrates differences.

$66,000 - $75,000 annually
