Immigration Legal Services

Full time 40 hours/week; Non-Exempt

Reports to: Immigration Legal Service Program Manager


The mission of Catholic Charities Immigration Legal Services (CCIS) is to provide high quality immigration legal services to low-income immigrants and refugees, and to engage in public education, training and community outreach. CCIS promotes justice for all newcomers and conditions that will result in their full participation in American society. Founded in 1996, CCILS focuses on family reunification and assistance to the most vulnerable immigrants, including domestic violence victims, crime victims, refugees, and certain persons needing deportation and removal defense.


Answer high volume of calls to conduct potential client intake; direct telephone calls to staff as appropriate; provide information and referral assistance to Spanish and non-Spanish speaking community members; track all calls and voicemails.
Greet clients and volunteers
Present all weekly intakes once a week to immigration attorneys; send referral list; call to schedule consultations; send appointment reminders; set up consultation forms in system; conduct conflict checks
Process fees weekly and make end of the month report of all fees received
Receive and process consultation fees
Receive and handle client documents
Process outgoing and incoming mail daily, log mail and direct it to appropriate representative
Data entry; enter new clients and consultation information into our system and update information as needed
Make file copies as requested
Follow procedures associated with opening and closing cases as needed
Record and create reports on clients served
Monitor and order office supplies and toner as needed, code billing invoices
Additional duties and projects as assigned


Must be bilingual (Spanish/English) and bi-culturally competent.
Ability to communicate concisely and effectively, both verbally and in writing in Spanish and English.
High School diploma required, Bachelor's Degree preferred.
Experience or desire to work with victims of domestic violence and sexual assault.
Cultural competency with low-income immigrant groups and a strong desire to work with this population.
Strong proficiency in all programs of Microsoft Office, experience with legal software preferred.
Demonstrate judgment and discretion in dealing with confidential matters.
Commitment to Catholic Charities mission to work in partnership with vulnerable populations to achieve lasting solutions to poverty and injustice.
Must be able to organize and prioritize work, be proactive, take initiative, follow through, and simultaneously manage multiple priorities to ensure goals are met in a timely manner. High attention to detail required.
Willingness to learn new skills and take on new responsibilities.
Strong analytical and strategic problem-solving skills.
Ability to work well in team setting, as well as independently; be flexible and adapt well to different dynamics in a fast paced work environment.
Ability to work a flexible schedule, which could include some evenings and weekends.
Ability to support organizational and program specific mission and goals.
Ability to lift 40 pounds.
Satisfactory results from criminal, civil and/or motor vehicle background check required
