The City of Gresham is looking for a motivated attorney with experience or interest in two or more of the follow practice areas: complex land use matters, labor law, enforcement of city codes, construction contracting and disputes, public contracting, and general governmental law with the desire to learn new subject areas as the need arises.
The City Attorney's Office offers a supportive, collaborative, and dynamic work environment in a progressive city government. The City's legal team consists of four attorneys (increasing to five with this recruitment) plus risk management professionals and support staff. The City Attorney's Office provides legal counsel on a wide variety of municipal topics such as public safety, land use, urban renewal, economic development, public works, employment law, labor law, constitutional law, and general governmental law.

The team's legal work supports city operations and programs for small business incentives, local purchasing, financing economic development projects, rental housing inspections, public/private partnerships, citizen involvement, code enforcement, innovative land use initiatives, and other programs.

The position will be filled as Assistant or Senior Assistant City Attorney depending on experience and skill set. Initial placement in the salary range is also dependent upon experience and skill set. Promotion from the Assistant to Senior Assistant level is based upon performance.
The position requires graduation from an accredited law school and an active membership in the Oregon State Bar. Experience with land use, labor law, construction contracting, public contracting, enforcement of city codes and/or governmental law is highly desired.
