Job Summary:

This fall, Portland Community College and Sherwood High School join in an innovative partnership for German instruction at PCC Newberg Center. In this unique opportunity, a select number of Sherwood High School students will enroll with PCC and travel to Newberg Center to take German alongside traditional PCC students. Class meeting days and times: Monday through Thursday from 2:00pm to 3:20pm.

- Part-time Faculty positions are included in the bargaining agreement between Portland Community College and the Portland Community College Faculty Federation Employees. Employment in these positions will require, as a condition of employment, payment of monthly union dues or a monthly fair share fee in lieu of dues through automatic payroll deduction.

- Full term pay rate may vary by course. Actual term pay is based on the course catalog contact hours multiplied by the appropriate hourly rate.

Responsibilities/Duties:

Primary Job Duties and Responsibilities

- Instruct students, using approved course outcome guides developed by college-wide subject area Faculty.

- Assess and grade student achievement of learning outcomes.

- Use student feedback to improve teaching.

- Be available for a reasonable amount of student contact to respond to questions and to resolve problems related to the course through time spent before or after class or through telephone or e-mail exchanges or office hours where facilities and schedules permit.

- Attend one staff meeting per term as directed by the College and when notified by the Division Dean.

- Provide additional hours of course-related student conferences or tutoring over and above classroom instruction when courses are designated as requiring such.

Minimum Qualifications:

Instructor Qualifications
To be considered for this position, your application materials must show how you meet the following requirements:

- Preferred candidates will hold a Masters of Arts in the language

- An MAT in German language may be considered if accompanied by 30 graduate credit hours in the language, linguistics, literature and culture. Candidates holding a Master of Arts in a related field from an accredited university with a minimum of 30 graduate credit hours in German language may also be considered.

- Native or near native ability in German language (to be assessed through a proficiency interview)

- One year of previous college teaching experience in related subject required

- Teaching ability as evidenced by vita and support materials

- Recent completion of a 3 credit graduate level course on college-level Second Language Teaching Methods/Methodology for the language (or required completion of such a course during first term of employment at PCC)

Note Regarding Academic Credentials:

- Official transcripts are required to be submitted within 2 weeks of offer date for degrees required in the stated minimum qualifications.

- Instructors shall have earned required academic credentials at a regionally accredited US institution or a foreign institution having the equivalent of regional accreditation. Instructors with credentials from other countries will have their transcripts evaluated by agencies that have good standing with the National Association of Credential Evaluation Services to establish fulfillment of this standard.
