The City of Salem Public Works Department is seeking to hire a Tree Trimmer to perform work in the care and pruning of shade trees along City streets and parks. This position is responsible for performing a variety of tasks including the climbing of trees, using rope and saddle to work at considerable heights, and operating an aerial lift truck and other power equipment used in the pruning and removal of trees and stumps, and in the planting of trees.

The qualified candidate will have demonstrated work experience as both a ground hand in part of a crew as well as the climber, knowledge of tree biology and landscaping maintenance; use of tools, equipment, and application of pesticides; and the ability to follow all safety regulations and practices regarding tree maintenance.

What are the minimum qualifications? •Must pass the pre-employment background check, drug test (including marijuana), and physical exam.
•Must have an Oregon Commercial Driver's license, or ability to obtain within six months of hire date, and have a driving record that meets the City of Salem's driving standards.
•High school diploma or GED supplemented by training or courses in arboriculture and three years progressively responsible experience including work as both the ground hand on a tree crew as well as the climber, or any combination of experience and training that demonstrate possession of the knowledge, skills, and abilities as listed, and ability to perform the essential job duties.
•Pesticide applicator's license, or the ability to obtain a certification within six months, is required.
•Flagger certification, current first aid and CPR certification preferred.
