Clackamas County's Department of Finance is seeking an experienced professional who enjoys a fast-paced environment and has a track record of collaboration, communication, and organizational development to be our next Deputy Director.

This critical leadership position directs and manages various programs in the Department of Finance, specifically, within the Division of Finance.

Finance’s Deputy Director is responsible for planning, coordinating and administering a comprehensive system of management functions in accordance with revenue and expenditure limitations, department requirements and legal guidelines. The incumbent is responsible for participating in Director-level oversight of the overall financial reporting functions of the County’s financial and accounting operations. The Deputy Director develops and implements financial policies and procedures and internal controls, and analyzes and recommends solutions to often highly complex financial needs.

The Department of Finance, through its Finance Division, provides financial administration of the County's governmental operations. Areas of responsibility include budgeting, payroll, general accounting including accounts payable and receivable, grants administration, contract management, debt management, cost allocation and financial reporting. Two additional divisions, Facilities Management and Procurement & Contracts, provide services to County departments.


The ideal candidate will demonstrate and build engagement at all levels of the department by serving as a role model for our values of accountability, customer service and integrity. The ideal candidate will have significant experience in both management of the daily operations in a finance department and management of administrative projects or programs for a local government. Successful candidates will possess very strong accounting and finance experience, excellent customer service, supervisory experience, good judgment and problem solving skills for a variety of administrative challenges in a multifaceted organization.

The ideal candidate will have excellent communication skills, superb interpersonal skills, interacts professionally with others, has a flexible work style in order to achieve results, exhibits organizational acumen, possess a strong attention to detail and enjoys working in a fast-paced environment. We are looking for a candidate who will employ a hands-on, proactive, and collaborative approach that builds trust and develops positive, open relationships in all aspects of operations, including the supervision and leadership of Finance employees.
