This recruitment will be used to fill Medical Assistant positions in our health centers. Some positions may require the ability to speak, write and read fluently in both English and Spanish languages (testing is required).
What is the Role of the Medical Assistant (MA)?
MA's assist care providers to ensure the delivery of high quality patient care and treatment at the clinics. They interact with patients both in person and by phone, perform simple procedures/treatments and all duties in a manner which promotes team concepts and reflects the mission and values of the Multnomah County Health Department.
The Health Department values cultural competence; ongoing quality improvement and utilization of best practices; developing and maintaining a highly qualified and competent work force; fiscal responsibility; optimally coordinated services and safely protecting patients and staff.

REQUIRED MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS/TRANSFERABLE SKILLS:
Any combination of experience and training that would likely provide the required knowledge and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the knowledge and abilities would be:
Experience/Training: Requires graduation from an accredited Medical Assistant training program.
Licenses: CPR certification is required. Certification through a nationally recognized Medical Assistant certification program, such as AAMA, AMT, NCCT or CCMA, is required.
Certification: CPR certification is required (valid CPR certification must be provided upon hire)
Depending upon assignment, candidates may be required to pass a criminal background check.
For positions with a language Knowledge, Skills and Abilities (KSA): Testing is required.
Preferred Qualifications/Transferable Skills: You do not need to have the following preferred qualifications/transferable skills to qualify. However, keep in mind we may consider some or all of the following when identifying the most qualified candidates. Please clearly explain on your application how you meet any of the following preferred qualifications/transferable skills.
Knowledge of principles, and procedures of record-keeping and reporting.
Ability to make observations concerning patients' general health conditions.
Ability to take and record vital signs and perform assigned laboratory tests.
Ability to communicate clearly and effectively both orally and in writing.

Please share your experience with MA duties and skills. Please specify where you gained your experience and how many years experience you have had with various skills, such as Electronic Health Records, scrubbing/screening the schedules, EKG's, practice management/rooming, phlebotomy/lab, pediatrics, immunizations/forecasting, primary care experience, outreach and front office work.
