Design Engineer – Front End System Mast Team

(HYG), a world-class manufacturer of industrial lift trucks, has an outstanding opportunity for an exceptional and talented Design Engineer at our facility located in Portland, OR facility. HYG designs, engineers, manufactures, sells and services a comprehensive line of lift trucks and aftermarket parts marketed globally under the Hyster and Yale brand names. We are one of the global leaders in the Material Handling industry and have been building relationships and partnering with our customers, suppliers, dealers and employees for over 80 years.
HYG is looking for an energetic individual who will have a positive influence on the Front-End design team. As a Design Engineer, this person will have responsibility for design of mechanical systems and components, participating in research, analysis and problem solving.
Interface with component suppliers and internal customers (Platform, Manufacturing, Marketing, Service, etc.) to understand detailed product requirements.
Translate truck-level and system-level requirements to component requirements.
Concept development for system design.
Create product design documentation – such as CAE (computer aided engineering), detail drawings, engineering lists, test plans.
Plan and support development testing to ensure design robustness.
Communicate both verbally and through written reports.
Provide guidance to engineers, technicians and mechanics as needed.
BS/MS (ME preferred) with 0-5 year’s work experience in an engineering field.
Knowledge/skill in vehicle/automotive technology.
Exposure and interest in, industrial equipment (materials handling, automotive, agricultural or similar).
Knowledge/skill in drafting practices, CAD, design layouts, engineering analysis and calculations.
Knowledge/skill in applying GD&T.
Desire for ‘hands on’ work in a shop environment.
Ability to operate or be trained on forklift equipment.
Occasional and limited travel (less than 10% total time).
Ability to work with limited supervision.
Skilled in the use of Microsoft Office (e.g. Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Project).
Knowledge/skill in applying FEA to evaluate and optimize structures.
Practical understanding of machining practices and manufacturing methods.
Experience applying risk assessment tools (DFMEA, Boundary Diagrams).
Experience with structures, welding, hydraulics, stampings, castings, injection molding.
Experience interpreting engineering drawings (components, weldments, hydraulic and electrical schematics).
Experience with Pro-Engineer/Creo.
Experience with rapid prototyping.
