The Planning and Development Services Division for the Department of Land Use and Transportation (LUT) is recruiting for a Grading Inspector II. Under the supervision of the Building Engineer, this position performs grading and site-related work inspections. Utilizing Best Management Practices, the types of inspections include, but are not limited to grading and drainage work, site retaining walls, property line setback requirements, driveways, and private road construction. Specifically, this position inspects retaining wall locations for compliance with county regulations and construction specifications. This position also inspects erosion, encroachments control, and soils movement.

This position will work with inspectors from LUT's Engineering and Construction Services (ECS) division and field inspectors from Clean Water Services in addition to coordinating with Building Inspectors on grading and retaining wall construction issues. This role will also track and maintain field records, interact closely with the public, and be responsible for inspecting grading permits within unincorporated Washington County.

The ideal candidate has excellent communication skills and is able to articulate complex information (i.e. grading inspection processes and procedures) to the public. The successful candidate demonstrates the ability to follow through with tasks as assigned and with great attention to detail. Most importantly, the ideal candidate is willing to follow Building Services procedures in and out of the office while providing outstanding customer service.

Inspector I Salary: $34.35 - $41.75 Hourly
Inspector II Salary: $39.83 - $48.42 Hourly

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
Inspector I Education and Experience:
A typical way to obtain the knowledge and abilities would be:

Two (2) years of construction or inspection related work experience; OR
An approved one-year inspection-related education program AND one (1) year of construction or inspection related work experience; OR
An Associate's Degree from an approved inspection-related education program or its equivalent.

Inspector I Additional Licenses, Certificates, Physical Abilities, and Specialty Requirements:
Possession of:

Oregon Residential Structural Inspector Certification; OR
Oregon Inspector Certification (OIC) AND International Code Council (ICC) certification as a Residential Building Inspector.
Must be able to obtain all required certifications within six (6) months of appointment.
A driver's license valid in the State of Oregon and have an acceptable driving record per Washington County policy.

Inspector II Education and Experience:
A typical way to obtain the knowledge and abilities would be:
Three (3) years of construction or inspection related work experience; OR
An approved one-year inspection-related education program AND two (2) years of construction or inspection related work experience; OR
An Associate's Degree from an approved inspection related education program or its equivalent AND one (1) year of construction or inspection related work experience; OR
Registration as an Oregon architect or a certified Oregon professional engineer, or have a Bachelor's or Master's Degree in architecture or civil or structural engineering.

Inspector II Additional Licenses, Certificates, Physical Abilities, and Specialty Requirements:
Possession of either of the following:
Oregon A-level Structural Inspector Certification, OR
Oregon Inspector Certification (OIC) and International Code Council (ICC) certification as a Commercial Building Inspector; AND

Possession of either of the following:
Oregon A-level Mechanical Inspector Certification, OR
OIC and ICC certification as a Commercial Mechanical Inspector AND

Possession of either of the following:
Oregon Residential Structural Inspector Certification, OR
OIC and ICC certification as a Residential Building Inspector.

If you have completed education in a foreign college or university and are using this education to meet the minimum qualifications, you must provide documentation that the foreign education is comparable to that received within the United States' accredited college or university system or your application will not be accepted.

ADDITIONAL LICENSES, CERTIFICATES, PHYSICAL ABILITIES AND SPECIALTY REQUIREMENTS:
Must possess a driver's license valid in the State of Oregon and have an acceptable driving record per Washington County policy.
