SUN Youth & Family Coordinator

Wilkes SUN Community School

Full-time; Non-Exempt

Reports to: SUN Site Manager and P-3 Coordinator



POSITION SUMMARY:

The SUN Youth Coordinator position supports the operation of Wilkes Elementary SUN Community School by coordinating with the SUN Site Manager in extended-day programming and the P-3 Coordinator for providing linkages to community social services and skill-building activities for families, coordinating adult classes and providing general admin support to the SUN and P-3 Programs.

SUN EXTENDED-DAY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Support the SUN Site Manager with the design and implementation of the SUN Community School extended-day and summer programming at Wilkes Elementary School.
Lead outreach efforts to youth and families to inform them about services and community resources, including EPHC specific services.
Support in the recruitment of students for SUN extended-day and families for adult programming.
Attend SUN teams meetings as needed.
Lead family engagement events and workshops involving parent involvement, volunteerism and community support efforts. This includes the Family Leadership Team and other parent groups at Wilkes.
Develop and maintain relationships within the agency, with staff, parents, community partners and social service providers as well as be a mentor to students participating in the extended-day.
Support school and SUN events such as Back to School Night, SUN Showcase evenings, and Parent-Teacher Conferences to provide outreach to families and promote services available through El Programa Hispano Catolico and the SUN Service System.
Support SUN Site Manager in the overall supervision of the extended-day temporary staff and partners.
Support extended school day programming in administrative operations such as registration cylces, drafting documents, spreadsheets, and flyers and other clerical tasks as assigned.
Organize and lead intake and participant tracking protocol in the county-wide data entry system (ServicePoint) by entering participant information and attendance as well as student enrollment.
Support Summer SUN program, including leading and supervising activities, attending field trips, and staffing Summer Meals programs.
Support the SUN Site Manager in collaboration with school staff and administrations to support the objectives and outcomes of Wilkes Elementary in the Reynolds School District, and the overall mission of El Programa Hispano Catolico and the SUN Service System..
Other duties, as assigned.


P-3 RESPONSIBILITIES:

Cultivate and provide opportunities for culturally-diverse parent leaders at the school and those about to enter the school.
Be present and visible in the school building.
Look for opportunities, such as daily school drop-off, events at the school and events in the community, to greet and get to know families, which includes being present in parent group meetings.
Utilize popular education methods and provide opportunities for families to share their knowledge and experience in culturally relevant ways.
Lead and co-facilitate diverse parent leadership groups for project planning and action; Family Leadership Team, CAFES parents group or a separate group.
Co-coordinate and deliver Abriendo Puertas
Support coordination of the Early Kindergarten Transition (EKT) program, including co-facilitating the EKT parent component.
Help the school develop a family-friendly climate, with a special focus on supporting families of color and families who speak languages other than English.
Support Kindergarten Teacher Family Visits through data collection, communication with families and accompanying teachers on home visits.
Support transition of parent leadership from Head Start to school.
Connect with early childhood and community partners, including Community Education Workers, DHS and local childcare providers and build links between partners and the school.
Maintain clear communication with SUN Site Manager, SUN Early Learning Coordinator and Principal to keep them informed of successes and challenges.
Join and participate fully on relevant school teams, such as the attendance and family engagement teams.
Attend regular meetings and trainings coordinated by the SUN Early Learning Team.
Collect, enter and report on data on a regular basis, this will include utilizing ServicePoint and conducting parent surveys.
Perform other duties as assigned.


QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS:

Must be bilingual (Spanish/English) and bi-culturally competent.
Excellent communication skills, both verbally and in writing in Spanish and English.
High School Diploma required. Associates or Bachelor's degree strongly preferred.
Experience and knowledge working with a broad range of issues affecting Latinx community especially issues related to youth and families.
Experience with community networking and organizing.
Intermediate proficiency in all programs of Microsoft Office; experience with data entry required.
Demonstrate judgment and discretion in dealing with confidential matters.
Must be able to organize and prioritize work, be proactive, take initiative, follow through, and simultaneously manage multiple priorities to ensure goals are met in a timely manner. High attention to detail required.
Willingness to learn new skills and take on new responsibilities.
Strong analytical and strategic problem-solving skills.
Ability to work well in team setting, as well as independently; be flexible and adapt well to different dynamics in a fast paced work environment.
Ability to work a flexible schedule, which could include some evenings or weekends.
Ability to support organizational and program specific mission and goals.
Ability to lift 40 pounds.
Must have driver's license, ability to obtain automobile insurance at levels required by agency (100/300/100). Frequent driving in the Tri-County area required.
Satisfactory results from civil, criminal and motor vehicle background check required.


COMPENSATION: Starting pay rate is $16/hr. Compensation is commensurate with skills and experience.
