The City of Salem has one opening for a Seasonal Stormwater Quality Technician position in the Stormwater Quality Section of Public Works. Seasonal assignments are limited to six months from date of hire.

This position performs technical, moderately complex, subprofessional engineering and drafting work. The successful candidate will be assisting Stormwater Quality staff with inspections of private and public stormwater treatment facilities and conduct field data collection to inventory potential stormwater retrofit sites. The position will also be providing technical support for the Operations and Maintenance, Outreach, Natural Areas, Stream Cleaning, and Environmental Monitoring programs.

The successful candidates has strong knowledge of engineering concepts, the ability to read and interpret construction plans and as-built drawings, the ability to utilize handheld GPS devices and smart phones, and proficiency in the use of ArcMap and other GIS software packages. The successful candidates will also have knowledge of traffic laws, occupational hazards, and safety precautions necessary in the public right of way is also desired. Lastly, the successful candidates will demonstrate their ability to follow verbal and written directions, use computerized inventory systems, read/interpret maps, plans, and specifications, and keep accurate daily time/material logs.

Duties associated with Stormwater Treatment Infrastructure Inspections: Utilize existing mapping software application and devices to inspect public and private stormwater treatment infrastructure, which include but are not limited to rain gardens, swales, treatment wetlands, ponds, detention basins, pervious pavement, hydrodynamic separators, tree boxes, and treatment filters. Open and close inspection work orders in the City's asset management database (Infor Public Service, IPS). Photo document onsite inspections and provide technical assistance to aid private infrastructure owners in the maintenance of their facilities.

What are the minimum qualifications?
Must pass the pre-employment background check.
Must have an Oregon Driver license and meet the City of Salem's driving standards.
Associates degree from an accredited college or university in environmental science, biology, natural resource, engineering, mathematics, or planning field, and two years of experience in performing engineering and drafting tasks, or any combination of education and experience
Two years general inspection, maintenance, repair, or construction experience in green stormwater infrastructure (GSI) and/or mechanical stormwater treatment facilities desirable.
Two years working with GPS devices and GIS mapping software preferred.
