Do you enjoy sports or working outside? Are you looking for temporary summer/fall employment? If so, the City of Salem has multiple job opportunities for highly motivated individuals to join our Parks and Recreation team!

We are currently hiring Recreation Leaders (Levels I-III) to support the City's Softball program. Work times will vary and may require staff to work on holidays, depending on the area of assignment. This recruitment is for temporary positions limited to 1200 hours per calendar year, however most of the work hours will be during September- October 2019.

As a Recreation Leader for Softball, duties include assisting recreation staff with the day-to-day operations of Wallace Marine Park Softball Complex, local high school softball fields, and associated programs. Assigned duties can include: manual labor, custodial, clerical tasks, lead work, direction, and/or supervision of less experienced staff, including evaluate performance, provide training/guidance, and other program coordination and development such as meeting with sponsors, planning tournaments, determining staffing needs or working with the press. Most of the softball activities are Friday through Sunday throughout the summer and fall.

Successful candidates should be highly organized, work effectively with others, follow oral and written direction, possess basic computer proficiency skills, and enjoy being part of a team. Assignment to the various recreational programs will be based on the candidate's skills and level of experience.

Preferred Skills/Experience •First Aid/CPR/AED certification preferred.

•Bilingual proficiency
What are the minimum qualifications? •Must pass a pre-employment background and drug test(including marijuana).
•Must be 18 years of age.
•Must have the ability to obtain an ATV license.
•Must have a driving record that meets the City of Salem's driving standards for some assignments.
•Recreation Leader I: Education in recreation, sports, or related field; or equivalent combination of experience, education, or training working with youth and/or adults in a recreational setting or as a participant.
•Recreation Leader II: Two years of college in recreation, education, or related field; or two years equivalent combination of experience and training working with youth and adults in a recreational setting or as a participant.
•Recreation Leader III: Three years of college in recreation, education, or related field; or three years equivalent combination of experience and training working with youth and adults in a recreational setting or as a participant.
