Stoel Rives has an exciting opportunity for a new Director of Business Development & Marketing, potentially based in any of our ten office locations. The Director administers and supports the development and implementation of strategically focused business development and marketing initiatives needed to source new clients, and also to strengthen existing client relationships, consistent with the goals and strategies of the Firm. The Director is accountable for maintaining a cohesive internal business development staff to support the business development and marketing strategies of the firm, including those of its practice groups, industry initiatives, and individual attorneys. The Director will execute, manage and/or coordinate all business development and client relations initiatives.

Essential functions:
• Provide strategic direction for firmwide business development, communications, brand marketing and client service activities
• Manage the day-to-day operations of the Business Development staff and ensure that the firm’s business development and marketing goals are being met
• Work with Business Development team and Firm Leadership to ensure organizational alignment around Marketing & Business Development objectives
• Assist attorneys in preparing for key client pitch presentations and advise on best practices for client relationship building
• Collaborate with the Professional Development team to create effective Business Development on-boarding and training programs
• Drive strategic development and continual improvement of the Firm’s website and other locations where Stoel Rives brand is represented
• Collaborate with the Director of Talent Acquisition to build Stoel Rives’ employer branding and communications that align with the growth initiatives included in the Firm Strategic Plan
• Oversee the planning and implementation of Firm events, sponsorships, conferences, client entertainment and receptions
• Manage all firm business development and marketing spending, including all charitable giving
• Manage the Firm’s RFP protocol process

Position requirements:
• Bachelor’s degree in marketing or related field required; MA/MBA/JD preferred
• Must have at least 3-5 years’ experience leading a business development team, preferably within an AMLAW 200 law firm
• Solid team player with excellent interpersonal skills, demonstrated ability to work successfully with attorneys, clients, staff, community, and vendors
• Strong client service attitude
• Strong project and time management skills with outstanding writing and grammar skills
• Must be able to multi-task with strong project management aptitude
• Willing to learn new things and systems and capable of working remotely and independently while participating as a team member
• Must possess strong leadership skills with the ability to work independently and take initiative
• Must possess an entrepreneurial spirit with a high level of initiative and responsibility
• Must have exceptional problem solving, consensus building, and decision-making capabilities
• Must have ability to organize and oversee a significant number of diverse projects at any given time, and ability to research, analyze, and synthesize information
• Must possess the ability to work effectively with a diverse group of highly educated individuals with strong opinions; must have a thorough understanding of the applicable ethical rules that regulate business development marketing activities in the legal profession, and a working knowledge of market research strategies, graphics and publications, media and public relations protocol, event planning, and financial analysis
• Knowledge and proficiency with Microsoft Word, Outlook, Excel, and PowerPoint, and InterAction a plus
