THE POSITION: The City of Portland's Bureau of Development Services is seeking a Mechanical Engineer to work as part of the Plan Review Team within the Plan Review & Permitting Services division. They are responsible for and perform reviews of construction plans for heating, ventilating and air conditioning (HVAC) systems, refrigeration, exhaust and smoke control systems for compliance with state building codes and other applicable city, state, and federal regulations.

The Mechanical Engineer works independently, but consistently with team members; uses initiative, exercises sound and professional problem-solving judgment; prioritizes responsibilities, and multi-tasks while adhering to timelines and customer service expectations.

Work includes: •Reviewing of the building envelope, mechanical systems and lighting for compliance with energy conservation requirements
•Working collaboratively with customers and coworkers including design professionals, contractors, owners, plans examiners, fire marshals, structural engineers, inspectors and others to assist in answering questions, interpreting complex technical concepts and offering solutions, from design concept through construction
•Providing excellent customer service in an equitable manner to meet the Bureau's expectations and the needs of the City of Portland's community
•Reviewing of mechanical systems for compliance with the Oregon Mechanical Specialty Code and other applicable city, state, and federal regulations.

The current Mechanical Engineer vacancy is in the in the Bureau of Development Services and is a part time position between 24-35 hours per week.

An ideal candidate will have experience designing HVAC systems and experience adhering and citing mechanical code. Ideal candidate will also have experience with Portland mechanical regulations and policy.

The eligible list generated from this recruitment may also be used to fill future vacancies in the Bureau of Development Service (BDS), the Bureau of Environmental Services (BES) or the Office of Management & Finance's Bureau of Internal Business Services (BIBS).

The following minimum qualifications are required for this position 1.Experience in the design and or review of HVAC systems and mechanical equipment used in a variety of building types including utilizing the mechanical specialty code.
2.Ability to communicate effectively, engage in problem solving, and partner with design professionals, contractors and co-workers.

Applicants must also possess: •A valid state driver's license and an acceptable driving record at the time of hire
AND •A certificate of registration as a Professional Engineer at time of hire
AND •Oregon "A" level Mechanical Inspector Certification OR
•Oregon Inspector Certification and ICC certification as a Commercial Mechanical Inspector

Step 2: Minimum Qualification Review is conducted. This review consists of reading all of the supplemental questions and ensuring that the materials presented meet minimum qualifications.

Only candidates who meet the minimum qualifications will be placed on the equally ranked eligible list.
