Marmoset is seeking a Software Development Manager.
This role will also be a member of Marmoset’s Executive Leadership Team, working with stakeholders across the company to maintain our established structures and processes, participate in company-wide planning and communication, and lead and maintain a vision for the broader, long-term goals of the application and the team. The Software Development Manager will oversee process and protocol development, ensuring a culture of continuous improvement.
This role will work on site with the team at Marmoset HQ in inner SE Portland, Oregon (relocation support can be provided).
What you should know: Our Tech Team consists of three developers and a Product Owner, with occasional support from outside contractors and technology advisors as bigger projects come our way. We have adopted scrum and agile methodology. As part of a small team, our developers are responsible for building and maintaining our end-to-end software lifecycle.
Our application supports critical business functions for both our internal staff and our clients, including:
Music catalog storage and curation
Organizing music projects and delivery
Accounting system integration
Sales order process
New product + service innovations
...and much more.
Our developers work both independently and collaboratively. We’re a self-organizing team that moves quickly together and contributes across the stack as needed regardless of specialized knowledge or experience. Marmoset’s culture is one in which developers must be open and motivated to learn and grow outside of specific specialties. Sharing knowledge and asking for help is important around here! We have the freedom to be truly self-organizing and creative, with guidance and support from leadership, as we move into the future of new tech opportunities for Marmoset.
Our main focus for the next 12 months is to identify and develop ways to support high-value business growth with our software, while continuing to build a more modern stack and flexible architecture to support sustained growth.
We are currently on Rails (5.2+) and Ruby (2.6.1) and continuously monitoring and updating our dependencies. We’re migrating from Backbone/jQuery to React (16.8+), and developing an API using GraphQL.
This opportunity includes the following technical requirements:
Ability to work fluently in Ruby on (and off) Rails (or applicable experience with other common backend languages)
A sound understanding of business logic as it applies to development and architecture
Possess a solid methodology for developing and managing clean, readable, maintainable code and writing unit, integration, and E2E tests (we use Rspec and Cypress)
Working knowledge of open-source database server technology (PostgreSQL, MySQL)
Proficient in version control (we use git)
Nice to have:
Experience with GraphQL/Apollo
Experience with React or any modern frameworks/libraries (Vue, Angular, etc.)
Experience with ActiveAdmin
Experience with data modeling and model optimization
Third-party services we use:
Stripe (for payments)
Semaphore (for CI)
AWS S3 (for asset storage)
New Relic (for app monitoring)
Jira (for project management)
