The purpose of this position is to assist with planning, advertising, and implementing successful volunteer projects throughout the community. Provide program support including event logistics and execution. Recruit, train, retain, and recognize volunteers. Provide support for departmental and citywide outreach efforts.
Position Status: This is a part-time (0.75 FTE), regular, non-exempt position. Limited term for three years.
Work Schedule: The schedule for this position is W-F, 9 am to 5 pm and Saturdays, 8am to 4pm. Some other shift work required based on need.
Plan, advertise and implement all aspects of various volunteer projects in local parks, green spaces, and other venues. Determine location and scope of project. Identify and develop partner and stakeholder support. Write and develop advertising for events, and identify and confirm advertising sources. Lead all aspects of day long projects including, but not limited to, tool management, safety review, volunteer orientation, project leadership, and responding to various needs/issues/concerns that arise at event. Send post-event follow-up communications. Drive a City vehicle in a safe and appropriate manner between worksites.
Recruit, interview, train, and supervise volunteers and AmeriCorps service team. Use a wide variety of online, community, multimedia sources to creatively market volunteer opportunities. Provide training such as invasive plant ID and proper removal to ten or more volunteers in a classroom and/or field setting. Share relevant stewardship practice information with volunteer team. Use a variety of volunteer management methods to effectively and efficiently lead volunteers during one day and ongoing volunteer projects.
Solicit and engage a diverse population of volunteers including youth, teens, adults, seniors and individuals with disabilities. Research best practices to connect with a diverse set of possible volunteers and utilize various methods to connect with them. Create appropriate outreach material that will best reach target population for volunteer project and distribute information to appropriate groups.
Assist with coordination and facilitation of city outreach efforts including but not limited to community forums, festivals, information fairs, school visits, workshops, online marketing tools, etc.. Identify, confirm attendance, and provide a City presence at multiple outreach tabling events throughout community. Talk and generate enthusiasm with members of the public and educate them on multi opportunities to get involved. Work a varied schedule as needed to attend events.
Assist with sponsor development including identifying in-kind donors and securing resources. Research possible partner, stakeholder, businesses and community members/groups who may want to volunteer or provide in-kind support or a combination of both. Use multiple venues to connect with these groups such as, but not limited to, cold calling, email, connection via face to face meeting, etc..
Perform a variety of office duties to support the volunteer programs such as filing, data entry, coordination of calendars, organizing photos, and communicating with program volunteers, stakeholders and partners. Utilize volunteer databases and software such as Volgistics, emailmeform, and VolunteerMatch to research and identify additional resources to best outreach and manage volunteer programs.
Retain and recognize volunteers. Build relationships with a variety of citizens; plan all aspects of one time volunteer recognition event including developing partnerships and sponsors, cleanup, setup, create program; identify opportunities to recognize citizens for their volunteer commitment.
Assist in development and distribution of department outreach and promotional materials, such as press releases, web pages, brochures, media advertising, etc.. Develop materials using a variety of media including Adobe suite products, publisher, online media, press releases, online websites and volunteer outreach databases.
Perform related duties and responsibilities as assigned.
One (1) year of related experience in the coordination and supervision of volunteer or other service-related programs. Lead and/or supervisory experience preferred.
Basic grant writing and in-kind fundraising experience desired.
Equivalent to an Associate's Degree in human services, communications, or related field. Bachelor's degree preferred.
Equivalent combinations of education and experience may be considered.
