The Painter performs painting and related work in the shop and at other installations in the BPA system. The incumbent completes the work in a timely and efficient manner without more than normal supervision. The Painter reports to a journeyman-in-charge or Painter Foreman II and performs all duties in compliance with government regulations, BPA safety rules, and the BPA-CPTC Collective Agreement.
As a Painter you will:
1.From shop orders and verbal or written instructions, determines work procedure, tools, and equipment to be used, and in most cases, the type of materials necessary for the assigned jobs.
2.Paints electrical equipment, structural steel, wood, metal parts, vehicular equipment, interiors and exteriors of buildings, and other structures.
3.Prepares surfaces by hand sanding, sand blasting, steam cleaning, and scraping, filling and puttying as necessary.
4.Blends colors and mixes paint and other surfacing materials. Applies appropriate coats and finishes.
5.Operates standard painting equipment such as air and airless spray equipment, steam cleaning, and sandblasting equipment. Must be familiar with and display proficiency in the operation of all equipment including making necessary adjustments and performing maintenance.
6.Cuts and installs glass.
7.Tape and finish sheetrock.
8.Operates small power tools (e.g., grinders, sanders).
9.May be required to move items preparatory to painting and replace after painting.
10.Clean up equipment and make proper disposal of waste materials.
