The Changes Housing Specialist I is a mobile case manager position that primarily works unsupervised in the field to provide flexible financial support, crisis intervention and individualized case management for participants for whom living independently is a goal. Participants are typically between the ages of 16-24 and are prepared to pay their own rent and living expenses with some support. Most participants will have completed or be near completion of their basic education (high school diploma or GED), have demonstrated the ability to maintain income with no more than 30% devoted to housing costs, and be motivated to work toward self-identified sustainable housing goals. The Changes Housing Specialist I supports a caseload of approximately 15 clients, and works in conjunction with the Changes Housing Specialist II to secure housing for 35 unduplicated transition age youth per year. Case management typically entails assistance with budgeting, apartment searches, navigating the rental market and landlords, financial assistance with full or partial move-in costs, access to furniture, and ongoing Assertive Engagement support as needed. Bridge House/Changes is founded on principles of Trauma Informed Care, Assertive Engagement, Restorative Justice, Harm Reduction and Positive Youth Development. The Housing Specialist I position provides individualized strength-based mobile case management support at the Changes office (co-located within the Bridge House facility in SE Portland), at participant homes and in community locations that reduce barriers and best meet each participant’s individual needs. This position attends weekly mandatory staff and house meetings at Bridge House, currently every Wednesday from 4pm-8pm.

QUALIFICATIONS: Any combination of education, experience and training that demonstrates the ability to perform the duties of the position is qualifying.

BA or BS in Early Childhood Development and/or Social Service related field or equivalent education training and experience.
Master’s Degree in social work preferred.
Experience assisting individuals securing permanent stable housing is preferred.
Rentwell Instructor Certification and knowledge preferred.
Demonstrated knowledge of local community resources.
Experience providing client-centered mobile case management to young adults and families throughout the Tri-County area (Multnomah, Washington and Clackamas County) is preferred.
Experience demonstrating a strong understanding of early childhood development.
Experience providing parent education and/or support in a group or home setting is preferred.
Bi-lingual skills (English/Spanish) preferred.

SCHEDULE: 40 hours a week. Monday through Friday. However, this schedule may be adjusted according to the needs of the program.

WAGE/BENEFITS: $17.50 per hour (+$0.50 /potential differential for additional Languages).
