If you have a high school diploma and 4 or more years of surveying experience, then OBEC is a good fit for you. This early-mid career position will give you the opportunity to help lead a small team on a range of transportation and municipal infrastructure projects. This position is ideal for an early-career survey technician who is a Land Surveying Intern (LSI) or Certified Survey Technician (CST), can work toward obtaining a PLS, and wants a mix of office and field assignments. The ideal candidate will be comfortable supervising and mentoring lower level survey technicians in the operation of surveying equipment and application of coordinate geometry and trigonometry skills on a range of survey types including route, topographic, construction, and land development surveys. Under the direction of the Survey Manager and other senior staff, you will help prepare for, conduct, and complete various surveying project assignments, including generating reports and providing other project support services. This position can require overtime work as well as out of town travel. Work conditions will include prolonged periods of physical activity in field conditions involving standing, climbing, walking, bending, reaching, lifting, pulling, and swinging.
Technical Skills
You must have a strong mastery of survey procedures and techniques, including general scientific theories and engineering concepts and principles, as well as high proficiency with AutoCAD/Civil 3D and/or MicroStation/InRoads. Your advanced proficiency operating GNSS receivers, data collectors, digital levels, total stations will be augmented by your significant experience using Trimble Business Center. Your technical abilities need to be rounded out by strong communication, time management, and organization skills as well as functional proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite programs (Outlook, Word, Excel). You must also have an Oregon or Washington driver’s license.
Teamwork and Assignments
We will push you to hone not only your surveying skills, but also your ability to perform as a junior leader on a dynamic team that works with several clients on numerous projects. Under broad parameters developed with senior survey staff, you will independently conduct routine surveys and support more complex surveys. You will be expected to follow established procedures within scope of assignments and exercise judgement to seek approval for deviation from standard procedures.
When you get to work each day, you’ll help supervise a team that ensures survey instrumentation and field equipment is operated properly, maintained in good working condition, and that routine maintenance is performed. You will also be accountable for a high level of proficiency and accuracy when completing tasks such performing surveys, gathering data, analyzing results, drafting reports, maintaining records, and preparing survey project deliverables. Your strong work ethic, organizational skills, and design judgement will help you effectively collaborate within multi-disciplinary teams as well as with clients, contractors, suppliers, and teaming partners.
