The Dental Program works with many community partners, targeting underserved populations in Multnomah County to ensure access to dental services including providing education, prevention and dental treatment.

Salary: $19.88 - 24.37 hourly (bilingual positions receive a 4% premium)

This recruitment will be used to fill Expanded Function Dental Assistant (EFDA) positions in our health centers. Some positions may require the ability to speak, write and read fluently in both English and Spanish languages (testing is required).

As an EFDA Dental Assistant with Multnomah County Health Department you will:

Provide direct clinical assistance to dentists and dental hygienists; perform 4-handed dentistry, including passing instruments for operative and oral surgery procedures and mixing filling materials; use child restraints when required; assist in administering oral sedation.
Perform expanded duty functions, including child and adult rubber cup oral prophylaxis, mixing and applying pit and fissure sealant and polishing amalgam restorations; placing and removing matrix retainers for alloy and composite restorations, removing temporary crowns and cleaning teeth in preparation for final cementation, performing preliminary fitting of crowns and any other functions permitted under OAR 818-042-0070.
Cleans and sterilizes instruments according to established infection control guidelines. Performs routine maintenance on dental equipment and hand pieces.
Take digital radiographs
Take alginate impressions and pour models; telephone other laboratories for pick-ups; perform limited laboratory procedures.
Instruct patients and their families on oral hygiene and oral disease prevention. ‚Äč

Required Minimum Qualifications/Transferable Skills*:

Equivalent to the completion of the twelfth grade.
Requires one year of responsible dental assistant experience or graduate from an accredited dental assistant program.
Possession of an appropriate and valid certificate of Expanded Function Dental Assistant, including a certification of radiologic proficiency issued by the Oregon State Board of Dental Examiners.
Current Healthcare Provider CPR certification or ability to obtain certification.
Successful completion of a program accredited by the Commission on Dental Accreditation of the American Dental Association is a prerequisite for performing the application of pit and fissure sealants. Successful completion of courses of instruction required prior to certification.
For positions with a language Knowledge, Skills and Abilities (KSA): Testing is required.
