Engineer II/III – Development Engineering

Job Summary
Clark County Community Development is seeking an Engineer II/III to perform Development Engineering review/approval of complex residential, commercial, and industrial developments within Clark County.

The selected individual will perform professional engineering work including: design construction plan review, technical report writing, applying development code, ensuring standard specifications, verifying plan review processes and procedures, and presenting at public meetings. Reviews residential, commercial, and industrial development plans for roadway and storm drainage for compliance with County Standards. Prepares staff reports and represents Community Development at hearings for proposed developments. Provides summaries of design deficiencies and recommends the proper corrective action; Coordinates with Construction Inspection to ensure construction compliance with approved plans and specifications.

*The successful candidate will be hired as an Engineer II or III depending on related qualifications.

Engineer positions are represented and require membership in Local 17, Professional and Technical Employees.

Education and Experience:

Engineer II: Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering and two (2) years’ experience in an Engineering I classification or equivalent; OR High School diploma or G.E.D. and four (4) years related engineering work experience to include a minimum of two (2) years’ experience in an Engineering I classification or equivalent; AND possession of an E.I.T. certification.

Engineer III: Bachelor’s Degree in Civil or related engineering and two (2) years of experience in an Engineer II level position or the equivalent is required. Registration as a Professional Civil Engineer in the State of Washington, or the ability to obtain registration within six months of appointment is required.

The degree must have been conferred by an institution of higher education and have National Recognition of Accrediting Agencies by the U.S. Secretary of Education, and official transcripts will be required at the time of hire. All combinations of education, experience, and training that demonstrate the ability to perform the work will be considered.

The ideal candidate will have experience with:
• Roadway and storm water design and/or design review;
• Writing technical memos, reports, or presentation materials;
• Planning, design, and/or technical review of residential, commercial, or industrial projects;
• Experience in public presentations and public meetings.
