The Senior Communications Specialist will work in the Operations and Maintenance Division (OPS). The successful candidate in this role will be an innovative, strategic thinker who will promote our Department's engagement, maintaining two-way communication with the public and employees and advance the strategic goals of our projects and programs. As a member of the communications team, the Senior Communication Specialist works under the leadership of the Department's Public Affairs and Communications Manager, providing guidance on internal and external communications.

In this role, you will serve as a lead Communication Specialist during emergency events, most of which are weather related. This will include updating web pages, communicating with media, updating/monitoring social media and more. These events may also involve late evening/early morning work shifts. You will serve as the division's main point of contact for public comments, questions, or concerns.

In addition, you will have responsibility for the facilitation of the Rural Roads Operations and Maintenance Advisory Committee, a citizen advisory committee for the Rural Roads Operations and Maintenance Division. As a member of the OPS leadership team, you will work closely with divisional staff to develop and implement specialized informational programs through public presentation and other media techniques, including the division's webpages and department social media channels.

Education and Experience:
A typical way to obtain the knowledge and abilities would be:
Possession of a Bachelor's Degree in communication, journalism, public affairs, public relations, education, education in program-related area, or related fields; AND
Two (2) years of progressively responsible work experience involving the development and coordination of public information or community outreach program, including demonstrated experience in communications and media relations.
