Oregon Episcopal School seeks a skilled, professional, and culturally competent individual to teach science in its Lower School. The science teacher will provide classroom instruction and science coordination to Pre-K through 5th grade students following OES standards and methods for instruction. The science teacher will promote curiosity and the exploration of ideas and concepts while fostering an appreciation for lifelong learning. Lower School teachers are expected to cultivate in students the OES values of community, social responsibility, and respect for individual differences. This position reports directly to the Lower School division head. • Develop an intellectually challenging and creative science program with developmentally appropriate research-based practices.
• Implement an academically strong, inquiry-based and differentiated science curriculum.
• Utilize the natural world as inspiration for place-based scientific inquiry.
• Develop science inquiry opportunities to explore design, automation, and engineering in the EC3 center.
• Be responsible for teaching science in a self-contained science classroom.
• Work collaboratively with colleagues to integrate science with the classroom experience.
• Use a variety of best curricular approaches, instructional and assessment methods inspired by Next Generation Science Standards.
• Collaborate with science teachers in other divisions to support a strong PreK-12 science program.
• Integrate technology to support student learning.
• Develop familiarity with each student’s individual strengths, affinities, and challenges.

• BA/BS or equivalent in science or related field
• Three years of elementary science classroom teaching experience
• Intercultural competence, ability to teach diverse groups of students effectively;
• ability to interact appropriately with a diverse array students, coworkers, family members
• IT skills: general digital literacy, intermediate to advanced MS Office Suite, database skills, web applications including Google Suite, Zoom or Skype, etc. as appropriate to job duties
• Ability to pass a background check and drug screen

• MA/MS or equivalent in relevant discipline
• Experience teaching in an independent school setting

• Ability to grow professionally and to stay abreast of changes in the field of science education
• Interpersonal skills, ability to collaborate, work effectively on teams, and maintain collegial relations with colleagues; ability to demonstrate flexibility and kindness, in the classroom
• Knowledge of educational technology; openness to innovation, willingness to learn, ability to integrate evolving IT into curriculum
• Communication skills, ability to communicate clearly verbally and in writing

• Primarily classroom environment, ability to sit at computer and keyboard for moderate periods
• Ability to lift and carry up to 20 pounds on an occasional basis
• Mobility sufficient to move about the campus and to assure the safety of young children
• Ability to see, hear, and speak to interact with students, parents, and groups of individuals
