Oregon Episcopal School seeks a skilled, professional, and culturally competent individual to be its sixth grade humanities teacher. The Middle School humanities teacher works closely with a partner teacher to develop and implement innovative curriculum for sixth grade students that integrates history and English skills and content into a cross-disciplinary class. A successful teacher in this position has the capacity to foster in students an enthusiasm for the exploration of ideas and concepts in a student-centered classroom. This role relies on someone who collaborates effectively with fellow teachers, members of the English and History and Social Studies Departments, and the Middle School faculty as a whole. The MS humanities teacher position consists of four classes of sixth grade humanities. Other full-time faculty responsibilities include being an adviser to a small group of sixth graders and occasional supervisory and chaperoning duties. This position reports directly to the MS division head. ESSENTIAL DUTIES:
• Facilitate dynamic, engaging, and effective learning experiences for MS students.
• Teach both interpretive and creative writing and reading skills to help students develop critical understandings of literature.
• Manage the classroom environment so that all students can learn safely.
• Evaluate and return student work promptly.
• Write evaluation reports for students in a timely manner.
• Collaborate positively with other faculty.
• Communicate with students and parents in a clear, timely, and professional manner.
• Advise a group of Middle School students and attend two overnight grade level trips
• Attend MS meetings, Grade-level Team meetings, and English/History Department meetings.
• Serve as a role model for Middle School students.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
• BA/BS or equivalent in English, history, or related field
• Three years of experience teaching English, history, or Humanities
• Intercultural competence, ability to teach diverse groups of students effectively; ability to interact appropriately with a diverse array of students, coworkers, family members
• IT skills: general digital literacy, intermediate to advanced MS Office Suite, database skills, web applications including Google Suite, Zoom and Skype, etc. as appropriate to job duties
• Ability to pass a criminal background check and drug screen

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
• MA/MS or equivalent in relevant discipline
• Experience teaching English/history/Humanities to middle school aged students
• Experience teaching in a team
• Experience with inquiry-based teaching and Project-based learning
• Experience using digital tools, and teaching in a 1:1 device environment

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
• Ability to develop curriculum with consideration of scope and sequence
• Ability to maintain a flexible mindset and an innovative approach to teaching
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, ability to collaborate and maintain collegial relations with colleagues
• Knowledge of educational technology; openness to innovation, willingness to learn, ability to integrate evolving IT into curriculum

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
• Primarily classroom environment, ability to sit at a computer and keyboard for moderate periods
• Ability to lift and carry up to 20 pounds on an occasional basis
• Must be able to see, hear, and speak clearly to interact with groups of individuals
• Ability to move about the OES campus
