Candidates must possess strong knowledge of the types and uses of tools, materials, and equipment involved in concrete construction or maintenance and installation of traffic control devices, and Manual of Uniform Traffic Control Devices (MUTCD). Knowledge of traffic laws, occupational hazards, and safety precautions necessary in the public right of way is also desired. Successful candidates will demonstrate their ability to follow verbal and written directions, use computerized inventory systems, read/interpret maps, plans, and specifications, and keep accurate daily time/material logs.
These positions operate a variety of equipment and tools such as 10 yard dump trucks, backhoes, trackhoes, jackhammers, cut off saws, brush mowers, weed eaters, post hole diggers, digging bars, propane torches, hand and other power tools as required.
What are the minimum qualifications? •Must pass the pre-employment drug test, background check, and/or physical exam.
•Must have an Oregon Driver License, or Commercial Driver license (CDL) depending on area of assignment, and have a driving record that meets the City of Salem's driving standards.
•One year general maintenance, repair, or construction experience in street right-of- way, public works facilities, utility systems, and public improvements. Preference will be given to experience in specific area of assignment.
