Position Title: UPPER SCHOOL DIGITAL ARTS TEACHER

POSITION SUMMARY
Catlin Gabel seeks a dynamic educator to teach high school Digital Media Arts beginning in our 2020-2021 school year. The ideal candidate will be creative, collaborative and a master in their artistic craft. The scope of the practice includes designing and teaching courses related to digital media such as photography, film production, illustration, time-based arts, and new and blended media platforms. We seek teachers who can inspire students to find novel and meaningful ways to apply their skills in digital media production. We are looking for experienced teachers who engage in backward design processes, who can define the success criteria for their student’s work, and who are eager to refine their practice and grow professionally. Ideal candidates will be excited to collaborate with colleagues within the arts and in the rest of the school. Our instructors have the possibility to develop exciting courses across disciplines; for example, bringing together physics and art through design and engineering, or blending history with digital storytelling.



The ideal candidate is proficient in Final Cut Pro, Adobe Creative Suite applications including Photoshop, Illustrator, Premiere, Aftereffects or equivalent, has experience with digital photography as well as film, video and audio production.

Catlin Gabel demands much from its teachers beyond their classroom responsibilities. Such demands include working with students and colleagues to enrich the school’s life outside the classroom. Faculty members also serve as guidance counselors for a cohort of student advisees. These demands highlight the fact that any teaching position at Catlin entails more than just working with students in a subject. Though this may be demanding at times, we feel it is necessary and rewarding.





ESSENTIAL DUTIES
Work individually and collaboratively in curriculum design, assessment, and instruction of four classes within the art department.
Plan, teach and assess challenging courses of study in a developmentally appropriate and culturally inclusive manner, with an eye towards differentiating instruction.
Pursue professional growth opportunities, and be accountable and responsible for individual professional development.

Actively support the school through participation in the variety of activities that make the Catlin Gabel School a vibrant community.

Act as Upper School advisor.

Other duties as assigned by Upper School Head.


EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE
MFA in a digital media field or MA or MEd.in an education-related discipline; a BA in education is preferred. Experience with new media including VR, 360 film production. Familiarity with community-based opportunities to showcase student work (festivals, competitions, galleries, etc.) and have them apply their skills in authentic environments. Demonstrated experience with adolescents or young adults is essential. At least two years demonstrated effective teaching experience is required.
