The purpose of this position is to provide civil engineering support to the transportation street design program and transportation development review services (TDRS). Provide technical assistance to street design group during planning, design, environmental permitting, right of way acquisition, and construction phases of capital transportation projects. Review preliminary development proposals and prepare technical reports using established templates. Prepare cost estimates and quantity take-offs for public works projects. Review civil plans and provide comments as related to the city's transportation standards and development cods. Conduct field site visits, collect data, research existing city records, perform engineering calculations, and manage databases and project mapping information. Provide limited AutoCAD drafting and Civil 3D design support for civil engineering plans for Public Works projects.

Position Status: This is a full-time, regular, non-exempt position.

Work Schedule: The schedule for this position is M-F, 8 am to 5 pm

Union Status: This position is covered by the provisions of an agreement between the City and the OPEIU Union.

Functions
Provide civil engineering support for the transportation capital program: Provide technical civil engineering assistance to project managers during planning, design, environmental permitting, right of way acquisition, and construction phases of capital transportation projects.
Provide technical engineering support for the transportation development review services (TDRS): Review pre-application information for new development proposals, prepare technical staff reports using established templates for residential, commercial, and industrial private development projects.
Process documentations for right-of-way acquisitions and environmental permits for capital projects. Coordinate project schedules and delivery timing with utilities providers. Maintain projects schedules and project filling systems (both electronic and hard copies) throughout the projects developments. Maintain and organize files for various transportation projects.
Prepare quantities take-offs and engineer's estimates for transportation projects. Perform civil plan reviews and provide comments on designs developed by consultants and private developer engineers to ensure compliance with the city's development cods and standards.
Provide limited AutoCAD and Civil 3D design drafting support for civil engineering plan preparations for small projects and transportation standard plans updates.
Use GIS software to obtain property ownership information, right-of-way widths, recorded surveys, and subdivisions and plats. Conduct field site visits, collect data, research existing city records, perform engineering calculations, and manage databases and project mapping information. Drive a City vehicle in a safe and appropriate manner between worksites.
Respond to public and consultants inquiries about transportation projects and drafting standards.
Perform related duties and responsibilities as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
Experience

One year (1) of technical engineering experience. Experience in civil, transportation, water and sewer, storm water, signal and lighting and pavement design preferred.

Education
Equivalent to an Associate's Degree (A.S. or A.A.) from an accredited college with major course work in engineering or a related field.
Equivalent combinations of education and experience may be considered.

Computer Skills
Basic skills in Microsoft Office Word, Excel, Microsoft Project, and Outlook.
Basic skills with GIS.
Basic knowledge in AutoCAD with Civil 3D design software.
