The Porch Light Supervisor supports the Shelter Manager by providing engaged leadership and safe operational oversight for two overnight shelter programs, co-located in the same downtown facility: Porch Light Shelter and Street Light Shelter. These shelter programs provide a range of basic overnight safety services for traumatized young people (ages 16-24) who are experiencing homelessness. The Janus Youth shelter programs are part of an integrated Homeless Youth Continuum of programs and services. Our shelters are founded on principles of Positive Youth Development, Harm Reduction, Trauma Informed Care and Restorative Justice that empower young people to meaningfully participate. Our shelters are open every night of the year from 8:45pm until 9:00am.

The Porch Light Supervisor position is responsible for assisting the Shelter Manager in maintaining the day-to-day operational readiness of Janus Youth’s Porch Light and Street Light Shelters. The PL Supervisor directly supervises the Porch Light Shelter Care and Support Specialist staff, including hiring, training, supervision and active modeling of best practices. The Porch Light Supervisor position primarily works swing shift hours, with some early morning and late night hours required. Occasionally, when coverage requires, the Porch Light Supervisor may be required to work overnight and weekend shifts. This position works closely with the Facility Manager to oversee all aspects of daily shelter operations including inventory/supply control, preparation of nightly meals, maintaining and ordering cleaning supplies, food, and youth hygiene items, overseeing facility maintenance and assisting the Shelter Manager and Facility Manager in maintaining the safe, respectful and comfortable operation of Porch Light and Street Light shelters.

The Porch Light Supervisor participates in the rotating Supervisor On-Call schedule, providing 24/7 remote support to all of the Janus Homeless Youth Services programs (Porch Light, Street Light, Access Center, Bridge House and Yellow Brick Road).

The employees of Porchlight and Streetlight are represented by a union bargaining agreement. The Director of Homeless Services is the primary contact point for the union, however, the Porch Light Supervisor may be occasionally required to assist in negotiations or other union matters.

SCHEDULE: 40 hours per week; to be determined. However, the schedule may be adjusted according to the needs of the program.

WAGE/BENEFITS: $3293.33 per month (salary exempt) plus $150 supplemental income for each week on-call. QUALIFICATIONS: Any combination of education, experience and training that demonstrates the ability to perform the duties of the position is qualifying.

Bachelors and/or Masters Degree in counseling, public health, social work or other related field OR equivalent training and experience that demonstrates the ability to successfully perform the responsibilities of position.

Previous supervisory experience.

Minimum of three years of experience working with vulnerable youth, including a demonstrated knowledge of homelessness, poverty, mental health, alcohol/drug treatment, sexual exploitation and the impact of trauma on the developing brain.

Demonstrated experience with facility maintenance, meal preparation and general administrative duties.

Preference may be extended to current employees of Janus Youth Programs, Inc.

Ability to budget, shop and maintain accurate receipts of spending expenses.

Ability to provide auditory and visual supervision of staff and clients.

Ability to supervise clients which may require extensive time standing.

Ability to climb at least two flights of stairs.

Ability to lift a minimum of 20 pounds on a frequent basis and up to 50 pounds on an occasional basis.

General understanding of food handling and the hygienic operation of a small commercial kitchen.

General understanding of routine maintenance issues.

Manual/physical dexterity allowing for performance of routine office functions, such as filing, copying, computer use, phone use, and writing.

Ability to perform or supervise routine household tasks (cleaning, cooking, emptying trash, etc.), including bending, stooping, reaching, pulling, lifting etc.

Ability to consistently attend and be punctual for scheduled work commitments and meetings and be in a condition suitable for performing responsibilities of position.

Ability to respond to phone calls at all hours of the day and night during on-call weeks.

Ability to work a variable schedule, including day, swing, and overnight shifts.



OTHER REQUIREMENTS:

Driving is required; a personal vehicle for travel and/or transport clients required. All employees who drive for work purposes must have and maintain a valid driver’s license for state of residency, have a driving record that permits coverage under the corporate auto liability policy, and complete the agency’s driving approval process before driving for work. If driving a personal vehicle for work purposes drivers must also have personal auto liability coverage ($100,000/$300,000 levels strongly recommended). Employees are not to drive for work purposes until they have received written authorization to do so.

Bloodborne Pathogens training is required on first day of employment and annually thereafter.

Must complete Mandatory Abuse Training within the first 30 days of employment and annually thereafter.

Provides emergency first-aid, as needed, and must have and maintain standard first-aid/CPR certification.

Must pass criminal history background check.

Food Handler's Certification.

TB clearance.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

May involve exposure to communicable diseases, including a variety of illnesses and infections such as the common cold, TB, Hepatitis, flu, meningitis, and HIV.

May involve exposure to vicarious trauma, including direct engagement with highly traumatized youth and mental health/alcohol/drug affected youth and young adults.

May involve exposure to upset, angry, severely traumatized or emotionally disturbed children, adolescents and families.

May involve time in excess of routine schedule and/or overtime, including evening/overnight, weekend hours, and/or holidays.

May require working and providing services at locations other than program site (i.e., restaurant, café’, clients’ apartments, etc.,) and may, therefore, be exposed to environments not under agency control (i.e., second-hand smoke, varying hygiene practices, etc.).

Will require flexibility in scheduling and duties, including overnight, daytime and weekend hours.

Participation in rotating 24/7 on-call management support.
