The Engineering, Traffic and Survey (ETS) Division within the Department of Land Use and Transportation (LUT) is recruiting for an Engineering Associate I. The position will support higher level engineering staff in the development of project plans and contract documents for a wide variety of public works transportation improvement projects. Individuals in this role will be responsible for preparing project plans using CAD software, developing CAD standards, and preparing project specifications and cost estimates. Assigned projects include culvert/bridge replacements, roadway widening, bike/pedestrian improvements, and standard detail updates. At times, this position will also be required to support other divisions with project related tasks.
The ideal candidate should have strong computer skills and knowledge of CAD software applications. Candidates should also have great communication skills and be able to convey information to a variety of audiences utilizing a multitude of tools and techniques. Most importantly, the incumbent should have the ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with diverse groups of professionals and individuals, whether it is with members of the public or co-workers.
Education and Experience:
A typical way to obtain the knowledge and abilities would be:
An Associate's Degree in civil engineering, construction engineering management, surveying, or closely related field; OR
Four (4) years of experience related to transportation projects that included the understanding of general civil engineering theory, principals, and methods with an emphasis on maintenance, plan preparation and review, construction Quality Assurance/Quality Control (QA/QC), road and bridge construction, and/or design review.
