General Summary:
The Buyer performs duties associated with the buying process. Under minimal direction and supervision this position researches products, prepares purchase orders, places orders, selects vendors, and works with departments to meet purchasing needs.

Essential Duties:
Work with Purchasing, Receiving and Production Team members to maintain appropriate inventory levels of materials and products used on a regular basis
Establish collaborative lines of communication with our Vendor Customer Service Representatives and Account Representatives as appropriate
Establish strong collaborative working relationships with internal teams: catalog, regulatory compliance, wholesale, pharmacy triage, product support and operations, receiving and production
Comply with terms of company purchasing contracts; utilizing other distributors/suppliers only when product is unavailable from contracted source. Research other distributor’s product costs, transit costs and service levels thoroughly before decision making.
Prepare purchase orders or other agreements as suggested and needed; review thoroughly before submitting for approval
Review PO acknowledgements; i.e., pricing, required processing times, transit times, and resolve any discrepancies with the supplier
Follow-up or expedite orders as necessary to meet inventory demand
Efficiently and actively monitor status of all open purchase orders with manufacturers and/or distributors assigned
Maintain open communication with Purchasing Director regarding activities, challenges and concerns, submit reports as requested by management.
Work closely with Purchasing Director regarding inventory preparations
Understand and practice the accepted business purchasing methods and follow the purchasing policies and procedures of Vetsource
Assist other department personnel in research and recommend the most suitable products or services that meet their needs with consideration to organizational objectives
Resolve discrepancies or negotiate settlements to create the best possible long-term advantage for Vetsource
Documenting and creating reports, this position will analyze the best course of action
Other duties/projects as assigned

Qualifications:
Strong attention to detail, accuracy, and organizational skills
Integrity - maintaining confidentiality is integral to the position to protect operations
Ability to prioritize and balance multiple projects simultaneously
Ability to perform at a high level with minimum instruction
Effective verbal and written communication
Understand and use appropriate job-related software applications
Results driven, proactive, and able to work autonomously
Must be able to make sound judgement decisions and know when to ask their manager for assistance
Strong communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to effectively listen and communicate information in a clear, calm, and concise manner
Ability to work full time and maintain consistent attendance

Education/Experience:
Bachelor’s Degree in business, accounting, marketing preferred; equivalent job-related experience accepted
2+ years of purchasing experience
Advanced skills in Microsoft Excel, with a high level of accuracy

Preferred Qualifications:
Strong collaborative communication skills
Comprehensive understanding of MS Excel, MS Word and industry standard purchase order software platforms
Impeccable attention to detail
Able to thrive in a high-stress and fast-paced environment
Product knowledge of veterinary pharmaceuticals

Working Conditions:
Ability to work at a computer for long periods of time
Noise level in the work area is normally quiet to moderate
