The salary listed above is based on a 40-hour work week. This part-time internship is scheduled to work approximately 30 hours a week, and the salary will be $14.75 per hour. The internship will run from June 15-August 14, 2020.

The Department of Consumer and Business Services (DCBS) is a progressive business regulatory state agency dedicated to the mission of protecting and serving Oregon's consumers and workers while supporting a positive business climate. The department administers state laws and rules governing workers' compensation, occupational safety and health, financial institutions, insurance companies and building codes. The department has consumer protection and education programs, offices, and ombudsmen to help consumers, injured workers, and businesses.

LEAP (Learn-Experience-Accomplish-Progress) is the DCBS internship program that was

launched the summer of 2017. The program is designed to provide participants with an idea of

what a career with DCBS looks like, and the tools to successfully compete for future recruitments. Interns will work alongside existing staff on projects in addition to spending time in the classroom with their fellow interns. All interns will work on a final project presentation with the help of an assigned supervisor in one of our divisions.

This intern position is with the Health Insurance Marketplace. The division is charged with managing the Oregon Health Insurance Exchange program which provides a marketplace for Oregon’s qualified health plans to sell insurance to Oregonians in the individual market. The division is responsible for managing the relationship with the federal technology vendor, establishing partnerships with state and federal entities that collaborate around this work and work within the state and national insurance regulatory model to provide ACA compliant and competitive products to Oregon families.

What you will do:
As a LEAP intern for the Oregon Health Insurance Marketplace, you will complete and present a project regarding program implementation, health policy innovations, or training based on individual interests and needs of the division.

What you need to qualify:
Minimum Qualifications:

Be enrolled in college at least half time at the time of application;
AND

Be at least 18 years of age by the time the program starts on June 15, 2020.
Requested Skills:

Communication – be able to work with managers and ask the right questions to define specific functions and application rights needed, within a specific rules. Manage and communicate requirements which may include obtaining and maintaining consensus.
Business Analysis - Elicit business requirements through brainstorming, analyzing documents, conducting interviews, observing work processes, prepping and analyzing documents. Identify business needs and problems and opportunities. Ability to summarize information gathered to be worked from by technical staff.
Self-Starter – works with minimal direction. Takes initiative to schedule meetings, raise issues, keeps documentation up to date.
Organizational skills – Must maintain and track lots of information and put together information.
