We are looking for an outstanding individual who has a proven record in commercial and residential plan review to assist our Building and Safety Division (BSD) to better serve our community. This position provides hard copy and electronic plan review of building plans while meeting BSD guarantees and goals. The candidate will counsel customers on appropriate permits, building code requirements, plan review submittal requirements, enter accurate data into computer records, and calculate fees. The candidate will also respond to inquiries from the public and other city departments. The ideal candidate is a seasoned plan reviewer with people oriented skills who can work independently accomplishing daily work load goals while working with walk-in-customers. You may be hired as a Plans Examiner I or II based on your experience and qualifications. Pay Salary for Plans Examiner I $28.22-$34.65, and for Plans Examiner II $31.91 - $39.07.

Our Building and Safety Division provides exceptional service to the Salem area construction industry. We provide plan review, permitting, and inspection of commercial and residential construction to ensure compliance with Oregon State Building Code and city of Salem codes. What are the minimum qualifications? •Must pass the pre-employment background check.
•Oregon Driver License and a driving record that meets the City of Salem's driving standards.
•High school diploma or GED, and college level courses in engineering or architecture, and two years of commercial plan review experience, preferably with electronic plan review experience, or any combination of experience and training that demonstrate possession of the knowledge, skills, and abilities as listed, and ability to perform the essential job functions.
•State of Oregon Inspector certification (OIC), Residential Plans Examiner (CAX), and Residential Structural Inspector (CAS) required.
•Additional certifications required for Plans Examiner II: State of Oregon Structural Plans Examiner A-Level (PEA), and Fire and Life Safety Plans Examiner (PEF).
•Preferred qualifications include: State of Oregon Residential Plans Examiner (CAX), Mechanical Inspector A-Level (MIA), and Residential Mechanical Inspector (CAM).
Additional certifications a plus (Inspector(s), MHI, GQI, etc), and may be eligible for incentive pay.
