The City of Gresham is seeking qualified candidates to fill a Public Works Construction Inspector
position in the Infrastructure Development Section of the Department of Environmental
Services. The Infrastructure Development Section is a small group consisting of 12 employees.
This position conducts on-site construction and safety inspections of public and private
construction projects to ensure conformance with City codes and Public Works standards. The
position documents inspection conditions and findings, and offers recommendations for project
approval and/or necessary improvements.

As the Public Works Construction Inspector, you will perform independent, highly specialized
field inspection work on public works construction projects. These projects include: parks,
sewer, stormwater, waterlines, street paving, sidewalks, driveways, curbs, and erosion
prevention with the primary purpose to determine conformity with plans and specifications.
In this role, you will work with city employees, public and private contractors and other
stakeholders to answer questions regarding public works standards, utility locations,
engineering and construction requirements. Your collaboration will be needed to interact with
project engineers, contractors and developers on construction problems and reviewing public
improvement construction plans. You will review bid proposals, pay measurements, quantities of materials, and locations for City-designed projects while calculating appropriate pay
estimates for these projects.
Your expertise will be utilized to assure appropriate materials and construction methods are
used to conform with approved plans. This will involve checking for proper dimensions,
quantity, quality, and usage of materials. You will inspect all public works projects at the end
of the warranty period to identify failures and inspect repairs.
Minimum Qualifications:
• Four or more years of progressively responsible technical engineering, inspection or
construction experience specifically related to municipal civil infrastructure.
Certifications and Other Licenses:
• Valid Driver's License
• ODOT General Construction Inspection certification (Required within 6 months of
Preferred Qualifications:
The ideal candidate will have excellent customer service and interpersonal skills combined with
the knowledge and experience required for this position. In addition, this candidate will have a
combination of previous inspection and technical engineering or construction experience in
public works construction.
