NOTE: This is a temporary seasonal position that is expected to end on or before October 31, 2019. This recruitment will remain open until we have filled the vacant positions.

The Marine Laborers work as part of a composite workgroup with the Operating Engineer Local 701 to perform a variety of tasks to repair and maintain Marine Terminal facilities and infrastructure for Marine Facility Maintenance (MFM). Tasks include general labor and construction responsibilities and operating construction vehicles and equipment to support maintenance and repair of marine facilities.

Generally, hours are Monday through Friday, 7 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.

General labor and construction responsibilities including:

Asphalt maintenance and repair

General maintenance and repair of marine rail systems

Basic maintenance and repair of equipment and vehicles allocated to the group

Provide general labor for other crafts needing assistance and perform light janitorial duties

Operate various vehicles including but not limited to dump truck, tanker, tractor/trailer combination, lift trucks, snow plow and sander.

Operate equipment including but not limit to asphalt hot box, crack sealing machine, air compressor, jack hammer, man lifts, compactors, and power washers.

Participate in multi-trade work tasks that involve more complex maintenance and repair activities.

Perform emergency repair work as assigned.

Perform administrative and other work task duties as assigned by Port management.

Position reports to and takes direction directly from the Lead Foreman assigned to the composite group.

High School diploma is preferred or, an equivalent is required.

Minimum of two years of general laborer experience in a construction and/or maintenance environment is required. Journeyman level certification is preferred.

Equipment operation experience and appropriate operating certificates at time of hire is desirable.

Valid Driver's License at time of hire is required. Class A Commercial Drivers License at time of hire is preferred.

Ability to obtain and maintain a Transportation Workers Identification Credential (TWIC) for unescorted access the secure areas of the terminals is required.

Physical ability to perform general construction labor tasks and ability to operate various construction vehicles and equipment as outlined above.
