PGE is modernizing our grid to support the continuing adoption of renewable power sources, incorporate customer owned energy resources, and support key trends in Oregon toward electrification of vehicles. Until recently, electricity has flowed pretty much as it had for more than a century — in a one-way stream from where it’s generated to where it’s used.
But new smart grid technologies create a two-way exchange of electric power and information that help us make our system more efficient, secure and reliable while also helping us cut Oregon’s carbon emissions. The smart grid also offers customers more choices and tools to power their homes and businesses more affordably and sustainably. The smart grid we envision will be enabled by our geospatial data and information and our increased reliability will be measured and enabled by our Outage Management System.
Senior IT Solutions Architect (R1-19-0649)
As the Solution Architect, you will design and develop IT architecture integrated process, applications, data and technology) solutions to the foundational technologies that support this transition; Geospatial communication of information, and our Outage Management system, in alignment with the enterprise architecture direction and standards. You will perform technical planning, architecture development and modification of specifications. Additionally, you will research and develop specifications for new products/services, applications and service offerings. Finally, you will assess the compatibility and integration of products/services proposed as standards solutions in support of core business functions by evaluating end user needs, client goals, budgets and existing applications to define system requirements and technical standards. This position is under Smart Grid IT Operations supporting the Grid Operations line of business.
Typical responsibilities include:
Lead the analysis of business and technology requirements to design and build scalable enterprise application architectures and recommend courses of action to ensure technology is consistent, usable, secure and adds value to IT investments/solutions and determines the strategic alignment.
Plan formal reviews of activities, processes, products or services.
Assess the viability and feasibility of 3rd party solutions to meet business goals.
Evaluate and independently appraises the internal control of automated business processes based on investigative evidence and assessments undertaken by self or team. Ensures that independent appraisals follow agreed procedure and advises others on the review process.
Provide advice to management on ways of improving the effectiveness and efficiency of their control mechanisms. Identifies and evaluates associated risks and how they can be reduced.
Collaborate with other Solution Architects and Developers to provide technical design guidance that will align with the strategy and applicable technical standards.
Assist in efforts to examine technology vision, opportunities and challenges, in addition to exploring emerging technologies and innovations
Lead effective partnerships with vendors, internal stakeholders and other groups to integrate solutions components
Experience implementing and architecting large scale, innovative IT solutions for T&D to drive business transformation – Understanding of architectural design and application delivery in technologies that include but are not limited to: cloud (AWS/Azure), DevOps, APIs/microservices, continuous integration/continuous deployment, Geographic Information System (GIS), Outage Management System (OMS).
Understanding of T&D systems and operations: Asset and Work management, Telecommunications, SCADA, PI, T&D Control Room operations.
Current knowledge of global industry and IT trends and the impact that these might have on T&D organization.
Demonstrated ability to execute tasks and deliver projects.
An aptitude to handle complexity and ambiguity.
Ability to build and maintain relationships various business partners
Ability to proactively communicate technical topics in a clear, succinct, and relevant way.
Experience working within a team; Excellent teamwork, facilitation, relationship building, and negotiation skills; Ability to think strategically about business, product and technical challenges; IT professional with utility experience.
Experience in designing and supporting Outage Management System (OMS), Geographic Information System (GIS) with integrations to Enterprise asset management (EAM), Interactive Voice Recording (IVR), Billing, Automatic Meter Infrastructure (AMI) Meters, Customer Relationship Management (CRM), Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA), Energy management Systems (EMS), CYME,
Experience in designing solutions for Enterprise systems and technology including Cloud, Mobile, Automation, SAAS, Big Data, Data Analytics
Deep expertise in software development methodologies – agile and waterfall.
The successful candidate will have a bachelor’s degree in in Computer Science, Computer Information Systems, Computer Engineering. Master's Degree preferred. Typically, eight or more years in related field.
