Domestic Violence Advocate / Gateway Navigator

Full-time Position (40 hours) Non-exempt

Reports to: Manager of Urgent Services


The Domestic Violence Advocate will provide short term (approximately 3 months) crisis case management, safety planning and resource navigation to DV/SA survivors that are referred through the Linea UNICA and other sources. The advocate will coordinate and lead support groups and conducts community outreach. This position requires a strong anti-oppression and social justice lens. 40 hour DV training is required.


Provide crisis intervention, safety planning, advocacy, housing advocacy (SSA's) and related support services to Latina/o survivors of domestic violence.
Provide information and referrals to clients; work with internal and external advocates regarding client needs.
Assess domestic violence client needs/strengths and develop service plan with appropriate action steps.
Advocate for Latino survivors with outside agencies and government systems (i.e. Courts, Social Security, Immigration, DMV, AFS, and others as needed).
Participate in community meetings with other social service organizations to promote the agency as an identifiable resource for Latina/o survivors of domestic violence and maintain timely and cooperative contact with outside agencies.
Participate actively in various team projects including team meetings, project coordination and implementation of pertinent activities such as 40 Hr. DV/SA workshops.
Support the organization and maintenance of updated resource materials for survivors of domestic violence.
Maintain a caseload of 6-8 domestic violence clients.
Facilitate a domestic violence support groups and deliver educational training programs and workshops for the community.
Maintain client files and required documentation according to agency and contractual standards.
Timely and complete data entry in required data bases.
Weekly 8 hour Crisis Line shift with occasional back up coverage as necessary.
Weekly 8 hour navigator shift at Gateway Center
Adherence to El Programa Hispano Catolico policies and procedures.
Perform other duties as assigned.


Must be bilingual (Spanish/English) and bi-culturally competent.
Ability to communicate concisely and effectively, both verbally and in writing in Spanish and English.

Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience required.
Minimum 1 year experience providing case management, information and referrals, intervention services and advocacy in Domestic Violence / Sexual Assault.
Experience and knowledge working with a broad range of issues affecting Latinos/Communities of Color in the community especially issues related to surviving domestic/sexual violence.
Experience with community networking and organizing.
Intermediate proficiency in all programs of Microsoft Office; database entry and management experience required, specifically with using Salesforce.
Demonstrate judgment and discretion in dealing with confidential matters.
Must be able to organize and prioritize work, be proactive, take initiative, follow through, and simultaneously manage multiple priorities to ensure goals are met in a timely manner. High attention to detail required.
Willingness to learn new skills and take on new responsibilities.
Strong analytical and strategic problem-solving skills.

Ability to work well in team setting, as well as independently; be flexible and adapt well to different dynamics in a fast paced work environment.
Ability to work a flexible schedule, which could include some evenings and weekends.

Ability to support organizational and program specific mission and goals.

Ability to lift 40 pounds.
40 hr. Domestic Violence / Sexual Assault training.

Must have driver's license, ability to obtain automobile insurance at levels required by agency (100/300/100). Occasional driving in the Tri-County area required.
Satisfactory results from civil, criminal and motor vehicle background check required.
