General Position Summary:



Contribute to the smooth, efficient and cost-effective distribution of Columbia Sportswear product by coordinating the accurate routing of outbound shipments, including customer compliance and monitoring pick reports.



Essential Functions/Major Responsibilities:




Prepare proper documents for all shipments requiring specific Routing Instructions and compliance with customer’s routing manual. Ensure that routing information is communicated to Shipping department.



Train and assist co-workers on functions of department including operations and procedures.



Participate in KYD Control Room/Production scheduling activities to ensure that shipments are made within expected time frames.



Maintain constant communication with Scheduling and Shipping departments to ensure that product is expedited timely and accurately to customers.



Determine appropriate selection of carriers when shipments are prepaid at CSC expense.



Contact carriers to arrange pickups and verify appointments for all modes of transportation, including small package, LTL, and Truckload shipments. Advises management of any delays or scheduling issues.



Organize and communicate information to internal departments and outside contacts as needed. Maintains positive relations with customers and carriers.



Continuously lift/carry up to 10 pounds.



Ability to cope with a stressful work environment and cordially interacts with coworkers to accomplish common tasks.




Maintain positive open lines of communication with all Columbia Sportswear management, staff and other departments in order to contribute to the smooth flow of information and efficient operation of the organization




Attendance and punctuality are essential functions of this position.





Secondary Functions:



Occasionally lift/carry up to 60 pounds.



Perform other related duties as assigned.



Job Scope:



Job responsibilities are carried out in a work environment that consists of both recurring and non-recurring work situations. Job has some variation depending on the issues or problems that appear. Work involves a moderate degree of complexity. Incumbent follows established department practices and procedures. Duties are performed with general directions, under moderate supervision, and work is checked on an occasional basis, by results. Decisions are made based on guidelines from departmental, company and freight carrier policies. Errors in judgment might adversely affect revenues by failing to properly investigate causes for lost shipments, company image by affecting customer satisfaction and vendor relations, and cause loss of revenues due to loss of customers.



Supervisory Responsibility:



This position has no supervisory responsibility.



Interpersonal Contacts:



Contacts are normally made with others both inside and outside the organization. Internal contacts may include upper-level management personnel, Domestic Traffic Manager, the Customer Service Manager, and/or Customer Service Assistant Manager, credit department, customer service staff, distribution staff and possibly sales representatives. External contacts are with customers or with representatives from freight companies. Interactions tend to focus on research, information exchange and problem solving. Contacts may include sensitive or confidential information. Incumbent frequently initiates contacts on his/her own either by phone or via face-to-face interaction.



Specific Job Skills:


•Possess extensive knowledge of distribution center operations with detailed knowledge of Shipping Department procedures and practices.
•Understands PkMS and is able to train others its functions and use.
•Ability to analyze problems and recommend and/or implement corrective action.



Education and/or Experience:



An Associate’s Degree (or equivalent work experience) and a minimum of two years experience in a business environment, preferably in, traffic, customer service, claims, or related field; or equivalent experience in transportation logistics, claims or customer service in the apparel industry.



Job Conditions:



Job may require hours that often exceed 8 hours per day and/or 40 hours per week to complete priority projects. Exposure to Distribution Center machinery/equipment such as conveyor belts, forklifts and loading docks.
