The Deputy Chief of Operations functions as the department's third in command. Under the direction of the Assistant Chief, this position supervises, plans, coordinates and directs the day to day emergency operations, and must be knowledgeable of current methods and standards of contemporary fire service and emergency response, as well as pertinent laws and standards. In addition, the Deputy Chief of Operations will participate as a member of the management team in establishing strategic goals, service level priorities, department policies, and organization development plans, coordinate special projects, be skilled in directing personnel and the Incident Command System, be able to maintain focus and composure under varying levels of stress and deadlines, and meet the City's standard for customer service and teamwork.

What are the minimum qualifications
Associate's degree from an accredited college or university in Fire Science or related field; and seven or more years of progressively responsible full-time continuous fire service employment, five years of increasingly responsible command and management experience at the Executive Officer level (as a Fire Chief, Assistant Chief, Deputy or Division Chief, or Battalion Chief). Experience in fire and/or emergency medical services, including divisional or departmental management experience, and labor relations; or any equivalent combination of experience, education and training which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.
Previous experience with collective bargaining is preferred as is expertise with Incident Command System (ICS). EMT- Basic certificate .
Bachelor's degree in Fire Science or Fire Administration or related field. Possession of Fire Officer II, completion of CPSE CFO credential, or National Fire Academy EFO program along with thorough knowledge of leadership and management principles, methods, and practices. Experience working in similar size organization, complexity and population served is preferred.
