Primary Work Location: Portland Main Campus Onsite, PK Elementary School setting.
Work Schedule: Weekdays during regular business hours; some evening and weekend work required.

Position Summary: The Assistant/Associate Professor in Elementary Education (Math/Assessment) is a full-time ranked faculty member within the College of Education who provides instruction in elementary math and math methods, lesson planning and edTPA, as well as professional courses in teacher education programs, field supervision, and program support in the area of elementary education. S/he will be entrusted with considerable responsibility for supporting the development of elementary math methods related curriculum, implementing elementary program initiatives in teacher preparation, and collaborating with partners in 3 to PhD around elementary education.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
•Facilitate student learning from an inclusive, multicultural, and transformative perspective, provide effective instruction, and perform evaluations of student learning for all assigned classes, using each course's standard course outline as a guide.
•Adhere to and enhance provided course syllabus, curriculum, course handouts, and presentations.
•Provide prompt and meaningful feedback to students in a fair, objective and consistent manner. Use established rubrics and clear grading criteria and the Blackboard management system and Taskstream where appropriate.
•Assign grades and maintain course/student records in accordance with FERPA regulations
•Meet all classes and other scheduled responsibilities such as office hours and meetings at the designated times (See University policy on class cancellation and sick leave).
•Provide course updates and revisions for on-ground and online courses in the areas of elementary math methods and/or assessment, including textbook adoptions/editions, edTPA revisions relative to math education and assessment practices, lesson planning, etc.
•Assist the Undergraduate and MAT Program Directors with program development, program maintenance, marketing, and recruitment as appropriate.
•Support the annual assessment and analysis of the undergraduate and MAT programs for continuous improvement.
•Collaborate with other partners in 3 to PhD around initiatives related to elementary education for PK-8 students, university students, and the community.
•Stay abreast of innovations and updated practices in elementary math/assessment environments in K-12 schools.
•Engage in appropriate scholarly research; participate in professional conferences at the regional and national levels; and participate in scholarly publication and activity (including grants for external and internal funding).
•Engage in University and community service (service activities include, but are not limited to, University and College committees and participation in student recruitment events).
•Perform other administrative and academically-related duties as assigned by the Dean, Associate Dean, Assistant Dean and/or Undergraduate and MAT Program Directors.
Membership on the College of Education Faculty:
•Participate in regular professional development sessions and activities, including ongoing equity work and culturally responsive practices.
•Collaborate on vision setting and problem solving.
•Coordinate with university changes that impact COE programs.
•Plan new program directions that address local, regional, and national needs.
•Encourage and support the work of all COE personnel.
•Review COE assessments yearly for action and input to the process.
•Assist the Dean, Associate/Assistant Deans, and Program Directors to organize and prepare for accrediting agency reviews.
Work Contacts: Contacts include Department Dean, Associate Dean, Assistant Deans, Department Directors, Chairs, peer faculty, staff, and students on a regular basis.
Scope of Work: Activities and tasks support the operations of the College of Education and includes following standard operating procedures through course of work. May initiate actions in support of departmental operations. Requires knowledge of institution policies and practices.
Working Conditions: Classroom and office environment within a PK-8 school setting and occasional virtual classroom.
Minimum Physical Requirements:
-Able to be present to teach coursework onsite or in a virtual classroom.
-Able to use technology and administrative software (i.e. Blackboard, Microsoft Office Suite, Taskstream, etc.) to enter data, respond to inquiries and create teaching materials.
-Able to use computer hardware and peripherals as well as office equipment including copiers and scanners.
-Able to communicate effectively in person, in front of audiences, electronically and via telephone.
-Tolerance to repetitive motions including keyboarding and writing.
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements:
-An earned doctorate in elementary education, teacher education, math education, or a closely related field preferred.
Note: If the candidate does not hold a terminal degree, enrollment in a doctoral program to enhance personal instructional performance and support the needs of the college is expected within 3 years of hire.
-Successful classroom and/or online teaching experience that demonstrates a capacity for excellence in teaching at the undergraduate and graduate level. 3‒5 years of undergraduate and/or graduate-level teaching experience in higher education is preferred.
-3-5 years of elementary school teaching experience with valid teaching license required.
-Demonstrated experience in elementary math teaching, best practices in elementary assessment, edTPA portfolio assessment, or other comparable experiences. 2+ years of related experience preferred.
-Familiarity with and the demonstrated ability to use and integrate the latest educational technologies
-Demonstrated ability to provide support in intensive learning environments
Minimum Requirements (Knowledge, Skills and Abilities):

-Proficient using the educational research software (Qualtrics, SPSS, Atlas.ti, IRBNet) Microsoft Office Suite including Word, Excel, Access PowerPoint, and Outlook.
-Able to enter data in a database in an accurate and timely manner. Able to readily learn to use existing administrative software including Banner, Blackboard and Task Stream.
-Working knowledge of FERPA and ability to handle confidential information with tact, discretion and good judgement.
