Area Forestry Manager (R-19-1016)
As an Area Forestry Manager, you will manage vegetation in proximity to electrical facilities to promote resiliency of distribution and transmission services.
Manages a team of professionals responsible for vegetation management. Sets functional strategy and establishes goals and performance metrics. Plans and directs work for team and contractors. Provides supervision of team, ensuring that all high-level goals are met. Manages performance management lifecycle, including coaching and feedback, with employees and our contractors.
Monitors and manages expenditures, ensuring that all financial targets are met, and examines any areas where budgets/expenditures vary from plan; assists with the definition and operation of effective financial controls and decision making.
Maintains robust field presence to ensure quality-of-work for both employees and our contractors. You are responsible for the management of operational efficiencies, and that can only be achieved through and thorough understanding of the work, and the personnel supporting it.
Oversees resourcing decisions and planning for team; partners with HR in the definition of jobs, recruitment, evaluation and selection processes.
Reviews organizational development needs and training strategies to determine required learning and development outcomes for the team; provides guidance in the creation of development plans; monitors ongoing progress and provides coaching and mentoring and provides feedback; completes annual performance management reviews.
Required knowledge and skills:
• Knowledge of laws and regulations related to Utility Vegetation Management
• Knowledge of field operations as they pertain to Utility Vegetation Management
• Demonstrated skills in reading specifications, Job sketches, and work orders
• Knowledge of budget practices and resource strategies, as they relate to field operations.
• Skills in electronic work order systems
• Skills in vendor management
The successful candidate will have a bachelor’s degree in forestry, natural resources, business or related field or equivalent experience. Prefer eight or more years in vegetation management or related field with at least three years of leadership experience.
