Transmission Analyst* / Senior Transmission Analyst (R18-710)
In this role, you’ll analyze and interpret transmission-related western region electricity market rules, operations, and data to develop PGE Merchant Transmission Strategy: you’ll advise and guide various PGE staff and traders in developing strategies that optimize PGE’s Merchant Power operations.

As a Senior Transmission Analyst, you will support our journey by:

Applying advanced knowledge of transmission-related grid operations and market dynamics, such as operational and congestion risks, etc. in conducting complex analyses, using available data to inform PGE’s trading activities and strategies;
Actively participating in BPAT and PGET stakeholder processes and assess impacts to PGEM operations from tariff and business practice changes and participating in industry-wide policy formulation groups;
Overseeing or personally monitoring and assessing the impact of changes to transmission-related market rules, system conditions, or operations that have a financial and/or operational impact on PGE and providing training and guidance on identified changes and impacts;
Analyzing a wide range of market data to fulfill complex data requests in support of numerous groups within PGE;
Providing strategic courses of action to ensure PGE has adequate transmission rights to meet native load needs and to provide consultation to Senior Management;
Analyzing changes in market rules and design, analyzing and interpreting complex operational and market data, and recommending short-term and long-term operational plans and strategies to optimize profits and reliability;
Developing forecast analyses to evaluate energy and transmission economic opportunities, including regulatory strategies;

Serving as a subject matter expert for enterprise-wide Merchant Transmission-related projects that bridge both trading and grid operations;

Working collaboratively with groups across PGE and leading cross-functional teams to support trading, scheduling, position management in developing longer-term planning and forecasting;
Preparing and distributing updated communications and presentations to internal stakeholders that are transmission-related analytics/forecasts and operations staff to support trading strategies;
Representing PGE Merchant in external forums and meetings with other utilities, transmission providers, and regulatory agencies to share/exchange information;
Working collaboratively with cross functional teams in preparing, filing and presenting regulatory filings
Leading, coordinating, and supporting PGE’s interactions with external enforcement agencies and contributes to PGE’s processes to demonstrate compliance and responses to audits;
Serving as company witness and subject-matter expert in legal and rate-making testimony.

*As a Transmission Analyst, your role will be similar, but with more supervision, and at a more developmental level.

You will bring the following skills to our team:

A Bachelor’s degree in engineering, physics, mathematics, finance, economics, or computer programming or other related field or equivalent experience;

Eight or more years in power trading, structuring, research, analysis, engineering, programming, design, modeling, power systems operations and/or wholesale power market operations or in a related field;

Intermediate/Advanced knowledge of energy market fundamentals and dynamics; and the ability to independently research and acquire knowledge of attendant technical details;

Intermediate/Advanced knowledge of the electric utility industry and electric energy markets, particularly commodities, including bilateral, hour ahead, day ahead, and term trading, scheduling procedures, state and federal policies and regulations, and underlying physical infrastructure and networks;

Intermediate/Advanced knowledge in power or gas markets as applicable to job;

Intermediate/Advanced knowledge of grid reliability requirements and operations;

Intermediate/Advanced knowledge of the theory, precepts, practices and requirements of Balancing Authority operations;

Intermediate/Advanced skills in mathematics, statistics and numerical analysis; in analyzing energy market conditions or trends;

Intermediate/Advanced computer skills in using Microsoft Office (Excel, Word and PowerPoint), and other analytics programs.

*At the Transmission Analyst level, 5 years of similar experience and knowledge, skills and abilities are at an intermediate level.
