The City of Hillsboro is seeking a Parks Maintenance Technician to join their team of professionals to help maintain their award winning parks system.

A Parks Maintenance Technician will be involved in a variety of tasks on a daily and weekly basis. That being said, a candidate that has a variety of job related experiences will be valuable within the Hillsboro Parks Maintenance Division. Technicians may be assigned to parks, the irrigation crew, construction projects crew, or sports field maintenance.

A Parks Maintenance Technician is essential for the ongoing maintenance of our parks and the landscapes of other City facilities. No matter where assigned, employees in this position will work closely with the assigned Coordinator to schedule and to perform both routine and non-routine maintenance activities. A few examples of what will be included are cleaning restrooms, mowing, pruning, weeding, and spraying pesticides. Depending on assignment this can also include irrigation repairs and installations, or installing park amenities such as benches and garbage cribs.

Equally important is providing excellent customer service to the public as well as co-workers, professionalism (you are representing the City of Hillsboro and the Parks & Recreation Department), the ability to maintain composure in challenging situations, and to serve as a positive role model for co-workers including the many seasonal or temporary employees that we employ each season.

General Statement of Duties
The principal function of an employee in this class is to perform basic routine parks maintenance and/or operational activities in assigned area of responsibility. Responsibilities as assigned may include providing customer service; performing routine maintenance and repair of equipment, infrastructure, and/or related items; operating motorized vehicles and equipment; inputting data into computerized systems; and preparing logs and records.

Acceptable Experience and Training
High School Diploma or GED and 1 year of related work experience; or, an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job such as those listed above.

• Valid Driver’s License and safe driving record.
• Oregon Public Pesticide License, preferred.
