POSITION SUMMARY:
The Office of Metro Attorney provides legal advice to the Metro Council, Metro Chief Operating Officer, Metro Auditor, and departments. The Office of Metro Attorney consists of 10 attorneys, and six support staff dealing with a variety of legal issues in areas such as: land use planning, real estate, construction, litigation, employment and labor, constitutional law, public finance, records and public meetings, contracts, administrative law, elections, and bond measures.
Our office is recruiting for a real estate attorney to provide legal services primarily related to the acquisition of real property to implement the Metro Natural Areas Bond Measure Program, and other matters as assigned. The Natural Areas Bond Measure Program was first passed by the Metro regional voters in 1995, renewed by the voters in 2006, and recently renewed again in 2019. The 2019 measure approved $475 million of general obligation bonds to fund natural areas, trails, and other acquisitions, protect water quality, restore fish and wildlife habitat, and improve access to nature.

EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION:
This position will be filled at either a Legal Counsel I or II level, depending upon experience and qualifications.

Legal Counsel I: Graduation from an accredited law school and active membership in the Oregon State Bar Association, and at least five (5) years working in general business law, or any combination of experience and education that provides the applicant with the desired skills, knowledge and ability to perform the job. Requires license to practice law in the State of Oregon.

Legal Counsel II: Graduation from an accredited law school and active membership in the Oregon State Bar Association, and at least seven (7) years working in general business law, or any combination of education and experience which provides the applicant with the knowledge, skills and abilities required to perform the job. Requires license to practice law in the State of Oregon.
