The Bachelor of Social Work program in Portland State University’s School of Social Work invites applications for one Assistant Professor tenure-track position. This position is a nine-month, full-time academic appointment. Candidates are expected to
teach social work practice and/or research courses and maintain an active scholarly agenda. All research areas will be considered, but we are especially seeking candidates with expertise in immigration; environmental justice; technology; global/international social work; disability; aging; substance use; and/or research with native and indigenous communities. Candidates who demonstrate an interest in and ability to move forward the mission, values, and vision of the School--particularly those with knowledge of and demonstrated commitment to racial equity and emancipatory frameworks--are strongly encouraged to apply.
In addition to maintaining an active scholarly agenda, candidates will be expected to advance our commitment to racial equity and to centering, in our BSW curriculum, the ideas of historically marginalized and critical scholars. A record of effective instruction with first-generation students and students from historically marginalized groups is preferred; this includes, but is not limited to Native American, African American, Latinx, LGBT and queer students, and students with disabilities. Priority will be given to candidates with social work practice experience who demonstrate in their materials a strong commitment to student-centered pedagogy and engaged learning. Ideal candidates will also have experience teaching and developing online courses.
Minimum Required Qualifications
- PhD or DSW in social work or related discipline (e.g., public health, human development/family studies, education). ABD will be considered but degree must be officially awarded on or before September 15, 2020.
- Demonstrated interest in the integration of research and scholarship, teaching, and service to the School, University, State, and profession.
