The Portland Police Bureau is seeking an Accountant I to join their team.

The Accountant I is responsible for performing professional accounting-related functions involving basic interpretation and analysis utilizing spreadsheets and databases. Duties include processing payments and accounts receivable; preparing, analyzing and researching financial information, such as purchasing requisitions, procurement cards, petty cash and accounts payable processing; maintaining information technology master data for employees, performing complex payroll interpretation and time entry, assisting in payroll administrative duties including grants reimbursements, and correcting journal entries ensuring completeness and accuracy of financial information, transactions and pay. By establishment of effective working relationships, the incumbent will answer inquiries, and educate and problem-solve with various levels of management and employees to reach sound conclusions and recommendations.
The current vacancy is located in the Police Bureau. The resulting eligible list may be used to fill future City vacancies in this classification.

The following minimum qualifications are required for this position:
1.Knowledge and experience utilizing Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).
2.Knowledge of governmental accounting practices.
3.Knowledge and experience preparing and analyzing financial information.
4.Knowledge and experience preparing spreadsheets using programs such as accounting software and Microsoft Office Suite.
5.Knowledge and experience using an integrated financial system (such as SAP or a similar system).
6.Knowledge and experience effectively communicating with internal and external stakeholders orally and in writing.
