The City of Hillsboro is looking for an enthusiastic and innovative leader to join our team as Recreation and Sports Program Supervisor. We are transitioning to a new and exciting approach to serving the Hillsboro community. By blending Recreation and Sports programming, the City strives to deliver a more inclusive experience that supports the diverse community we serve by keeping programs closer to home and focusing on the needs of our community. The Recreation and Sports Program Supervisor shares knowledge and expertise to develop their team while preparing for the future of recreation programming at the City of Hillsboro. This position works out of the Administration Offices at the Gordon Faber Recreation Complex and delivers services City-wide in partnership with City departments and community partners.
The Future of Recreation & Sports Programming
Our new Recreation and Sports Program Supervisor will be developing and delivering new camps, classes, and programs as well as reimagining existing leagues and programs for a fresh look and experience. The successful candidate will be working with a creative and innovative team to break away from tradition and embrace new community based programming that promotes diversity, equity and inclusion.
General Statement of Duties
The principal function of an employee in this class is to oversee recreation activities and perform specialized programming in support of an assigned program or area. Responsibilities may include supervising full and part-time, seasonal and volunteer staff; coordinating program resources and staffing; monitoring program budgets, including grants; conducting needs analysis to identify programming opportunities; developing program marketing materials; resolving complex customer service issues; preparing reports; and monitoring the utilization of program resources. Incumbents may be responsible for hiring, discipline and termination procedures for full, part-time and seasonal staff.
Acceptable Experience and Training
Bachelor’s degree in Recreation Management, Education or Public Administration or a closely related field and 3 years’ recreation and/or programming experience in assigned area of responsibility including 2 years’ supervisory experience; or, an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job such as those listed above. Strong communication and leadership skills as well as experience working with schools and agencies through Intergovernmental Agreements (IGAs) is a plus. 5 years’ experience in a related position is preferred but not required.
