The City of Salem is recruiting for a Green Stormwater and Natural Areas Program Coordinator! This position is responsible for the public green stormwater facilities program (rain gardens, water quality planters/swales, etc.), as well as plans and implements projects that enhance or restore natural areas, such as wetlands or streambeds. This position leads at least two other staff that are responsible for the maintenance of green stormwater infrastructure (GSI) and natural areas, which includes overseeing the day to day maintenance and scheduling work necessary to meet permit requirements for GIS and mitigation sites. In this position, you will work closely with Engineering staff and review plans for new construction of GSI facilities to ensure that all plants and soils meet City standards. In addition, this position is responsible for designing new irrigation systems for new and existing projects, oversees maintenance of all existing systems, and develops work plans that include planting designs (time, material, and labor estimates).

The GIS and Natural Areas program utilizes Department of Corrections (DOC) Adults in Custody (AICs) to maintain large facilities, and the program coordinator will provide general oversight to training and coordinating with DOC staff. This position will work with outreach and volunteer groups on projects and will work with multiple other City departments and outside agencies. Writing technical reports, working with the public, and giving presentations will be expectations of this position.

The Green Stormwater and Natural Areas Program Coordinator is a journey, professional level classification, and provides input on aspects such as hydrology, bank stabilization, habitat value and wetland monitoring, in addition to function and maintenance of facilities. Employees plan and implement green stormwater and natural area vegetation projects requiring the application of scientific principles and theory. They lead projects requiring independent judgment and action. The employee exercises discretion in selecting appropriate resources to use in accomplishing the work.

What are the minimum qualifications?
A Bachelor's Degree with a major in biology, botany, horticulture, environmental sciences or natural resource science; and three years' experience in horticultural or natural area development activities; or any combination of experience and training which provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities
Must pass a pre-employment background check.
Must have an Oregon Driver license and meet the City of Salem's driving standards.
