Jama Software is seeking a hands-on Revenue Accounting Manager to join our Finance team.  This position will collaborate with our Sales, Legal, Licensing, and Professional Services departments to ensure the proper recording and timely reporting of revenue and commissions. This role is expected to identify and implement system and process improvements to drive better controls, reporting, and revenue management cycle time. 

What you'll get to do:

Subject Matter Expert (SME) regarding internal policies and technical accounting for revenue recognition, providing support to the Sales, Professional Services and Legal departments
Leads the adoption of ASC 606, including the impact assessment, process design, and tools/process implementation
Supports sales team during deal negotiations; advises on transaction structure to align contract terms and business objectives
Reviews complex software and service contracts, documents appropriate accounting positions in accordance with US GAAP, and builds proper revenue recognition schedules in the General Ledger
Works with Corporate Controller and external Auditors on acceptance of the revenue accounting positions
Leads monthly closing of all revenue related accounts, including bad debt, deferred revenue, and royalty and commissions accruals
Provides timely and detailed reporting and analysis, including reporting of revenue, bookings, commissions, and working capital
Monitors accounts receivable and works with sales and customers to facilitate their timely collection to minimize invoice to cash cycle time.
Ensures proper calculation of sales commissions, including reconciliations and adjustments

Education & Experience:

Bachelor’s degree in accounting
CPA or ability and desire to obtain CPA license
4+ years of specialized experience in revenue accounting or analysis in the software industry
Deep understanding of US GAAP, specifically Revenue Recognition (Topic 605), and Revenue from Contracts with Customers (Topic 606)
Big 4 public accounting experience in the technology industry is highly preferred

Demonstrated ability to research complex accounting topics, interpret the applicable accounting pronouncements and literature, and document accounting position in a complete and concise manner
Strong sense of personal ownership and ability to receive and apply feedback
Intellectual curiosity that leads to a deeper understanding of how a process works and why it is done a certain way, with a strong desire for continuous improvement  
Ability to effectively express, through writing and speech, ideas and information using language that is appropriate to both the complexity of the topic and the knowledge and understanding of the audience
Ability to build strong relationships with internal customers, business leaders and peers
Ability to work under broad supervision and exercise frequent independent judgment with extremely low error rates
Team-player, self-motivated, and adaptable
Exceptionally organized and detail-oriented, with good time management skills
Intermediate to Advanced Excel skills (Pivot tables, Vlookups, etc.)
Experience using Salesforce CRM and Sage Intacct ERP a plus
