The City of Salem Public Works Department is seeking to fill the role of Lead Water Treatment Plant Operator at the Geren Island Water Treatment Plant. The position operates, maintains, and monitors mechanical, chemical, instrumentation and process control systems in a manner that ensures compliance with applicable Federal, State, and local laws, regulations and codes. Provides guidance and leadership to water treatment plant personnel and contracted workers, participates in setting guidelines and standards for the treatment process, and may serve as direct responsible charge (DRC) operator in the absence of operations and maintenance supervisor.
The qualified candidate must have operational experience at a class III or higher water treatment plant as defined by the Oregon Health Authority, ability to maintain compliance standards of state and federal drinking water regulations, and provide lead worker duties to operations staff such as technical and non-technical guidance and training concerning plant operations. Experience with inventory and purchasing rules, performing preventative maintenance on water plant equipment, and using computer systems including Microsoft Office is required. The successful candidate must have the ability to communicate effectively, problem-solve using sound judgment to make appropriate decisions regarding plant operations, and be able obtain a level IV Oregon Water Treatment Operator certification within one year of employment.
What are the minimum qualifications?
Must pass pre-employment background check and drug test (including marijuana).
Must possess a valid Driver's license with a driving record that meets the City of Salem's driving standards.
Associate's degree in water treatment technology, biology, microbiology, bacteriology, chemistry, hydraulics or related field, and three years of operational decision making experience at a class III or higher water treatment plant as defined by the Oregon Health Authority.
Must possess an Oregon Class III, or higher Water Treatment Plant Operator Certification, and have the ability to obtain an Oregon Class IV certification within one year of employment.
