Jama Software is seeking a hands-on Senior Revenue Accountant to join our finance team. This position will collaborate with our Sales, Legal, Licensing, and Professional Services departments to ensure the proper recording of revenue and commissions and the timely collection of receivables. This role is expected to identify and implement system and process improvements to drive better controls, reporting, and revenue management cycle time reduction. The ideal applicant will also have a strong sense of urgency to achieve financial statement close deadlines, manage accounts receivable to assure timely collection, and the ability to work with sales to adhere to policy and improve the order to cash cycle.
Responsibilities to include:
Leads the adoption of ASC 606, including the impact assessment, process design, and tools/process implementation
Manages the order to cash cycle, ensuring adherence to company revenue recognition policies and GAAP
Drafts comprehensive policies to ensure compliance with generally accepted accounting principles
Reviews customer arrangements for proper revenue recognition in accordance with company policy and revenue recognition accounting standards
Documents accounting policy on revenue treatment for large transactions
Works with Corporate Controller and external Auditors on acceptance of the revenue accounting positions
Monitors accounts receivable and works with sales and customers to facilitate their timely collection and minimize invoice to cash cycle time.
Ensures proper calculation of sales commissions, including reconciliations and adjustments
Leads monthly closing of all revenue related accts, including bad debt, deferred revenue, and royalty and commissions accruals
Provides revenue recognition training to sales, sales operations, legal, product marketing, etc.
Researches accounting guidance as necessary to serve as expert and handle questions for the Sales, Professional Services and Legal departments
Provides detailed reporting and analysis, including the preparation of revenue-related support schedules for annual financial statements
Prepares monthly revenue forecasts
Assists with ad hoc accounting and financial projects as requested
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting; CPA and/or MBA a plus
8+ years of general accounting experience, including 3+ years of specialized experience in revenue accounting or analysis either in the SAAS software industry or public accounting with SAAS software clients
Demonstrated ability to research complex accounting topics and interpret the applicable accounting pronouncements and literature
Ability to effectively express, through writing and speech, ideas and information using language that is appropriate to both the complexity of the topic and the knowledge and understanding of the audience
Ability to build strong relationships with internal customers, business leaders and peers
Ability to work under broad supervision and exercise frequent independent judgment with extremely low error rates
Team-player, self-motivated, and adaptable
Exceptionally organized and detail-oriented, with good time management skills
Intermediate to Advanced Excel skills (Pivot tables, Vlookups, etc.)
Experience using Salesforce CRM and Sage Intacct ERP a plus
